Listening to Bowyer's post match interview yesterday I'm expecting a much more senior side than played the last 2 matches as the youth team are at Carlisle in the youth cup on Monday.

To qualify for the knock out rounds we need to win by 3+ goals and for Rochdale to qualify they need to win by 4+goals so hopefully should be an open game with both teams attacking.

Hopefully Reeves can get 15-20 minute run out and if Pritchard has recovered from his illness i can see him getting 60-75 minutes to keep his match fitness and sharpness up with his lack of minutes recently.

Can see a team along the lines of: GSK, Mellor, Paudie, French, Longridge, Pritchard, Anderson, Devine, Oteh, Connolly, Ismail.
Gibson and Patrick could come in if they are fit then the bench is probably everyone else who's fit.

Drop as many genuine first teamers as possible. Anyone paying to watch this needs their heads read!

Totally agree Birky. We don't play Saturday so a full week before the Cup replay and with a few hours on a coach and a game today you would not expect any youth team players to figure. On top of that and contrary to some on here we need to get into the bigger money of this competition in my view.
I posted before that at the start of the season Stefan said it was essential we got promotion, McBurnie was sold and we had a cup run. Despite Shrews possibly missing four on international duty for the replay, progress is not a certainty and we were down to the bones on the bench Saturday so GB was spot on with the comments he made. Add to this the fact that Rochdale need to win by four (they may feel unlikely) and they played Sunday so might have a weaker team and away we go!

Whilst the EFL persist with Under 23 teams in this competition I shall not go, be that at Wembley or anywhere else.

It wasn't a high profile competition before the Under 23 teams were involved but massive damage has been done since to effectively kill it off. They have been lucky that bigger teams have made the final in recent years, when an U23 side makes the final that will kill it for good.

The Premier league has hoarded all the young players and they throw us a pittance and expect us to give them game time.

If we needed to get to the "bigger money stages" then why not take it seriously in the first two games instead of waiting until we need to win by 3 clear goals in the last game?

    Absolute nonsense.

I would hope that GB plays our most 'affordable' side ...... Those who need match time, and also some who can play twice a week. Add a few more from the bench, just for the 'experience'.

    Going for a 3 - 1 Win here. :)

(Edit; Even that I don't give a schitt !! The FAC is far more (and lucrative) than this !)

The 900 fans took it seriously, the rest of you should hang your heads in shame. How are we supposed to get behind the lads ffs if there aren't enough of us.

Cant wait for them to scrap the U23 idea. Thankfully most of the teams are gash, with all the good U23's either in first teams or out on loan, leaves the lads who basically are just waiting for a none league loan or release.

This trophy struggled even when it was just L1 & L2 for fan attendance. Reckon if it went back to a knockout contest, L1 & L2 and made it a flat rate any ground, £10 adults and £5 for kids & over 65's they would make more money and have more fans than they have nowadays which would hopefully make the players want it more. Cant imagine it's inspiring walking out in a stadium the size of VP on a cold night to an atmosphere from 90 people.

Wow @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler Stefan dosn't want much does he. He clearly doesn't know the ups and downs of running a lower league club. Wanting promotion this season I can understand but it's by no means a given, he's already got McBurnie deal but a cup run is a minefield for a league 2 club and we haven't had one since 2015. Hopefully we get through next week and get a kind draw tonight but then you need to get through round 2 and hope you don't get a team like Preston away in round 3. It's asking a lot and hope he's not disappointed.

I might be wrong, but I think he’s saying we need that to get out of the shot Rahic left us in financially. Not that Rupp wants it for some profits, didn’t Wetherby say it could take 5 years to put right what Rahic did? Although I think that was before the McBurnie money.

Lets hope with the start we've made under Bowyer it gives us a head start on the 5 year comnent.
When you think where we were as a club, no debt, a good squad that were promotion play off contenders I can't see us as a club being near that situation by 2021/22 season.
Even promotion this season and consolidation the following season 2020/21 then a promotion push 2021/22 season may be asking to much, but as we know winning games can become a good habit, just as we saw last season losing games can become a bad habit.

Add to that 5 Cup runs, and we're talkin'.
No better time to start than NOW !! ;) Remember 2013 ? A Cup run plus promotion ? Yeah, OK, so I'm a dreamer, but dreams don't have to be nightmares. :)
