I wanted him before Adams, who a lot on here wanted unfortunately. But as you allude to, what he does elsewhere has no bearing what he would have done here at Bradford.

just because he is doing well at Orient, is no guarantee he would do well at the graveyard that is valley parade.
Hopefully the players are raring to go come boxing day after their 22 day break from matches.
Hopefully we push on in Jan , a 10% improvement sees us in the playoffs anything more and we could get the autos.

Can not remember if I was for or against him but would say results elsewhere don’t seem to count for anything when managers come to VP

As a manager Wellens has had mixed success.
Oldham. He managed them for a season, which resulted in them being relegated to League Two (Fail)
Swindon. Promotion to League One. But then he leaves the club in October, and in effect his team is relegated back to League Two at the end of the season. (Win ish).
Salford. Less than five months in charge. Went for the job as he lived near Salford! First league victory against us. Left by ‘mutual consent’, whatever that really means. (Avoider)
Doncaster. This time 199 days in charge. Sacked with Doncaster in 23rd place and ultimately the squad he had managed were relegated. (Fail)
Leyton Orient. Appointed March 2022. Helped Orient avoid the drop. Cruising at the moment. (Win)
Other factors. As well as managing Oldham, Salford and Doncaster he also played for them.
He is rotten at geography, he commented on leaving Swindon, ‘First and foremost, it was to be closer to my family – I’ve lived near Salford for 25 years’. Richie I have to tell you that Leyton is a further 60 miles away from Salford and Avanti West Coast is a failing rail provider!!
The longest he has stayed at a club as a manager is two years. So not one for staying around.

He was the perfect choice for us as he entertains and knows what it takes to get promotion out of L2.
However, last season when Adams left, if anyone was given a straight choice of Hughes or Wellens, I think they are telling porkies if they didn’t wouldn’t have said Hughes - the man that was at Man City and had never managed below PL level.
If they didn’t say Hughes, it must have been because they thought Hughes’ interest in the job was a wind up.JonButterfield, ModernBantam, Idlebantam and 2 others like this. -

I admire Hughes vision of pure football but in league 2 give me Parky, Evans or Wellens anytime.borderlescott, Dratsab taf and Bantam-in-Greece like this. -
If he’s that bloody good why were Doncaster relegated and played football from the dark ages at VP. It was his team remember!

Orient as a club have low expectations. As with many previous players and managers who’ve failed at VP, the high expectations and demands of our supporters has led to failure after failure. Some managers thrive in this environment but the majority fail. I don’t know what it is, but there’s no guarantee Wellens would do any better here than he did at Doncaster.

Let’s be honest he’d have played a low block and been crap for us regardless of elsewhere.

Refreshing to hear City fans are impressed by someone who isn't an outrageously hideous and odious arch-villain.

MH doesn’t see it as a problem the opposite in his view. Other managers might have seen it as a hindrance.
All I know is that Orient had the resources to get their game on and we didn’t and I think that says a lot really.Interested Bystander likes this. -
