    Never like keepers as captain but probably the only choice we have at the club currently.

    There are no other viable alternatives that I can see. We’re not exactly flush with leaders.

    Good luck to him but in the nicest possible way, I hope it is only a temporary appointment until we get a midfield general in who can take over the armband and boss things good and proper from the middle of the park.

    Agree. I'm not a fan of keeper captains. They can't really drive the team on or lead by example as easily because they tend to react to what is coming to them rather than proactively setting an example.

    But, as you say, good luck to him.

    Goalkeepers make crap captains, they're not involved enough. How are they supposed to put their arm around a young striker who's gutted he's just missed a sitter? Or get a midfielder to calm down after he's just received his final warning for a hefty challenge?

    Come on fellas, can we stop being miserable about everything the club does - good luck Richard, there were not really many options for the role but to me he is right choice. Sod where he plays, he is the best man for the job to lead the team - not somebody else because ' he plays in the right position' to do it

    It is saying the rest of the team lacks the character to be captain and drive the team, He may be a nice lad but is still a poor decision

    The way I see it it just highlights how poor we have been in the transfer market and what an awful squad we have currently.

    Honestly I would have rather made Wood captain as he's our best player or Cooke or even Billy Clarke. I would rather an outfield player be captain.

    Our squad just lacks leaders...however, I think everyone barring one or 2 on here have said that.

    Cliche I know, but you need 11 captains on the pitch. The armband means very little nowadays. If a player is a natural leader, he'll demonstrate it, armband or not. O'Donnell seems the natural choice and I've no problem with a keeper being a captain. After all Manuel Neuer and Hugo Lloris are the last two captains to lift the world cup.

    Seems to give a shit the most so I like the appointment. You don't need an armband on to tell someone to calm down or encourage them.

    90% of a captains job is off the pitch so nothing wrong with the appointment for me.

    Need leaders all over the pitch to be successful. Do you really think Gary Jones would have been a different type of player/ had less influence if Matt Duke had worn the armband?

    Very true. I think the issue is not so much that the goalkeeper is going to be the captain but more that there are no Gary Jones type characters anywhere in the team.
