Although a few have improved under Hughes, there's still a nagging frustration that they're only a couple of defeats from returning to type. Those who've barely featured (unless inured) are most likely out the door. I see one or two are advocating keeping Staunton but it can't be coincidence that he's barely had a look in under 2 managers. Is he really a good as some think or was it that he looked half decent in the worst defence I can remember? Add to that he hasn't pulled any trees up when out on loan. For his own career he needs to be playing.

 

Staunton and FCD need to go out on season long loans where they have the opportunity to be playing regularly because that isn't (and shouldn't) be happening here next season. Scales only signed a year extension last summer so I wouldn't be surprised to see him being released.

The retained list was released a day after the anniversary last season, so I’d imagine they’ll do the same again this year. I’m not sure if all the squad attend the anniversary service or not.

 

I wonder if the retained list will be announced today. It was released on this day last year but looking back, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it, as it was the 26th May in 2020, 7th in 2019, 17th in 2018 and 24th in 2017, so we might still have a bit of a wait yet.

And he hasn't looked the same player since. I am surprised he's been offered a deal as his lack of opportunities made me think Hughes didn't fancy him. Not sure he'll sign if I'm honest.

 

I don't disagree but I suppose it depends on the terms offered, and if any of the contracted players are leaving. Hendrie and Sutton are useful squad players. If they're good characters, that helps and it helps that they've already had experience of what Hughes wants. No real issues from me with any of the calls made.

I'd expect some of the contracted players to be moved on and I think we'll lose some or all of Paudie, Watt and Vernam

 

Just watch, he'll be the first to sign up now and the likes of POC, Vernam and Watt will all bugger off!

At the time Watt and Cooke were poor Sutton was the one player who had drive and got up and down the pitch and the one midfielder who got in the opposition box. However after not starting much under Hughesci expect him to move

 

Nowhere in my post did I say I was in the know. I was speculating and TBH I can spot it a mile off. Some posters seem to think that these things would be released to the media. Its his own personal health and things like that people keep private. I just look at him and knowing the signs see a guy who is going through something. But yeah just speculation.

 

There’s been a couple of comments in here stating how there may be an issue in terms of hendrie resigning as we’d have 3 right backs on the books. As far as im aware, Threlkeld is a CDM by trade? so we should class him as such. Irrespective of the fact that he’s been deployed at right back all season. Right Back was never his position

As for FCD, He’s a Centre Back who can cover at Right Back if needed. As some have said, young CBs can often begin their career from the flank in order to mould them into playing at a professional level

So even if Hendrie does sign, We will only have 1 actual Right Back on the books. An id imagine that the idea for him is to be a backup, with Hughes having the plan of bringing a first 11 Right Back into the team at some point in the summer.

 

Sutton is your archetypal utility player. Has the best engine I've seen in a player for some time and is pretty rapid pace wise but doesn't have the attributes to be a starting midfielder in a two man midfield. I'd say attacking right back should be his natural position as positional sense isn't as important as it is in central midfield.

 

Either that or he should have checked his spam.

 

Evans, Cooke and ROD Won't have been on peanuts so I would think there's a fair bit of cash free'd up from the budget.

I'm a bit surprised to see Cooke in there without a deal being offered but you have to wonder if he's let it be known he wants to leave. There's a good midfielder on a free for a league 2 club right there.

Of those still under contract Threlkeld is the only one I'm really hoping moves on. Nothing against the lad but he just isn't up to it. Personally I'd happily see Hendrie signed up for another season.
