He is out of contract so it’s not a matter of retaining him it’s about whether he will sign a new contract. I think he is better than league 2

I get your point, to ship out all of them one way or another is both unlikely, perhaps counter productive and would leave us starting from scratch completely. Someone else posted earlier, it would leave Bowyer a huge task of finding a enough new players with the necessary physicality, talent and blend to form a successful team/squad straight away. PP took a couple of years to do it having jettisoned the lot and Bowyer may need a similar time frame.

However, going on the list of who we have and who wed like to see retained, I think there are far better players in Caddis, Mellor, Akpan (maybe?!) and Doyle, who all have more experience than Josh Wright (who's not really done much at any level, on a huge wage and to me was a bizarre signing in the first place) and are much more fitting to be seen as the spine of the team.

The thought of us pinning our hopes on Wright in L2 to be the talisman, the one to drag a team through tough games when we were struggling (like we did with Gary Jones on many occasion, successfully too!) makes me shudder. He's not fit to lace Jones's boots.

It is that standard if not better, that we should be aspiring to recruit if we're going to have a successful season next season. With that, Wright is definitely near the top of my list, that Stefan should be willing to take a hit on financially (which he undoubtedly will have to) and make sure hes not on the books next term.

Difficult to properly estimate the true value of one or
two players e.g. Doyle as he is a goalscorer but he needs
the right player/s around him and we've seriously lacked
    that.

A big clear out is required because we can't afford to allow
the same mentality to manifest itself again next season.

We need to avoid getting hung up on moving people on.

Hopkin told Riley, Jones, Reeves, and Wright in no uncertain terms to find another club. They could have walked for free. Aside from Jones, who is effectively gone, we've got the equally undesirable Shay Mccartan to come back, as well as Omari Patrick.

These losers are all, I believe, under contract next season, when they will be less use than an ashtray on a motorbike.

Cue claims that Lincoln will want McCartan (they won't), or that some will be good in League Two (nope).

These are the exact wrong characters we will need in the long slog through the League Two fixture list.

And chances are, they're going nowhere with wages that are over inflated in L1 let alone L2.

Sorry but that's just not a true, we can only base opinion on what we've seen and it's nowhere good enough. As @JonButterfield@JonButterfield says when the best part of our team are loan players and Caddis, with the loan players returning we're an absolutely awful team.

The team that got us promoted from League 2 only just squeezed into the play offs and for me they are streets ahead of this team. I just can't understand how you think this lot would be good in league 2? We were pushed aside by Macclesfield!!

This side has failed in every situation its found itself in. All the cup competitions were a disaster which pretty much mirrors the league form. That league 2 side had grit and determination and a will to win. But more importantly it had Nahki Wells, the only player who really went on to better himself on a regular basis. Put him in this team we have now and you would see quite a difference, the confidence the team has knowing you have a player who individually turn a game with a goal from nothing is a game changer. Without Nahki that league 2 side would not have gone up.

The other day you listed 5 players you wanted to keep. 5.

Now you want to keep the majority?

What’s unrealistic and foolish is demanding automatic promtion back from League 2 and expecting the bulk of that to be achieved by a squad handed its Arse every week in League 1.

I just hope we can shift out Anthony O'Connor some how. I never want to see him playing in Claret and Amber ever again. unless its for Motherwell.

With our debt and next season’s drop in income, I cannot see a costly mass clear out happening. Bowyer needs to get something out of a number of our contracted players who have n’t performed this season and he also needs to recruit well. He will know who he wants to get out of the club based on skill and character but getting them out may not be that easy. The damaged caused by Edin will be with us for a year or two yet.

It will probably boil down to salary. I'd take Caddis all day long over Mellor at full back, Caddis better both attacking and defending, hence playing at a better level throughout his career. And i'm not that worried about his size, Darby was a great full back for us and he was only 5'8"/5'9". Caddis also a leader, something we have little of in this squad.

I agree with you, except the sentiment 'we will need to get behind them' - they will need to earn absolutely everything after this catastrophe of a season.

The onus is 100 % on players to perform next season.

Supporting Nigel who only has the interests of his mates in the City of London at heart in the belief he's actually sticking up for normal working folk :no_mouth:
It's probably best to keep politics off this site apart from in separate threads specifically designated for it.

Given none of us on here are anywhere near as qualified in football as Bowyer is I'm going to reserve judgement. If Bowyer sees something in him then IBWT, he's still young and looked okay when I've seen him this season
