Hopefully, it won't be an issue for us anyway, but the National League clubs are going to consider declaring the season null and void, meaning no promotion or relegation. Torquay won't be happy if the vote goes through.

If cancel the national League season, surely no relegation and all the worries of previous months disappeared

I've not been following it so genuinely no idea but whats going on. But with the vaccine being rolled out every day and light very much at the end of the tunnel, why do they need to cancel the season?

is it that they cannot sustain the cost of regular testing of players and staff without having crowds in?

Its National League N/S for two weeks. And is probably down to being unable to test players.

There's a meeting today to see what can be done about funding because all but one club have voted to scrap this season. The funding that the leagues have got from certain bodies as been used and they can only get funding from another body but the clubs thought it was to be in the shape of grants but they've been told it will be loans. The clubs have said they will not be prepared to be in debt inorder to finish this season.

I'd just scrap the lot including the PL until next season. Testing regimes or not I think it's totally wrong that people who work in retail are losing their jobs but football (and all elite sport) can continue.

Thats the crux of it.Previously the National leagues were able to get grants, but now all that is on offer is loans, and with no crowds allowed, where is the income going to come from to re-pay any loans.

I appreciate what you are saying, but I don't think the mental health benefits for a lot of people of having games to look forward to should be underestimated

If they do end up scrapping the season I'm even more relieved that we've had a change of regime.

With Rhodes and McCall still at the helm I think there'd have been little concern about us finishing at the foot of the table knowing there were no consequences.

It’s ironic that we haven’t had a single case and yet we are three matches behind some teams

I think the mental health of nurses is more important. Football is spreading it, even if only marginally, and more we can do to stop the spread the better.

Apparently Wuhan is back to normal and China has had not more than 20 deaths a day since April, the reason is partly because they banned all travel and all interaction. Football is an unneccesary example of both at the moment. It's only continuing because of the tV contracts. Don't kid yourself they've allowed it because of "mental health".

I think some situations have low transmission rates and are worth it compared to everything else. If league two is carrying on purely just because of the meagre TV money I’ll be a monkeys uncle.
When you have retail workers in confined spaces for multiple hours a day meeting hundreds of untested people its bound to spread. But when a small amount of people are tested weekly or even multiple times a week, are working outdoors for around an hour and for a few seconds are in touching distance. I do think the odds of catching there are low. We’ve not had a single case at City.

by the same token should anyone who carries out home visits not be able to work either? As far as I understand plumbers, electricians and engineers are still able to visit homes.

Simple answer to that. Is football continuing a neccessity in a pandemic. No. Absolutely no justification for it, irrespective of transmission rates. Plumbers, electricians etc are a neccessity.

Fair, can’t really argue with that. For me having football to watch helps give me something to look forward to. hopefully by march it becomes a non-issue

listening to the latest updates coming out the lockdown looks like it will be going on for much longer. PM not saying it should be done by end of Spring and talking about summer months

    Irrespective of transmission rates??

    Is football a necessity? No
Is there any evidence that football is spreading the disease? As far as I can tell - No. As has been mentioned, we along with many other clubs have had zero cases.
So just because it isn't a necessity doesn't mean it should be cancelled. You have to consider that if it were to stop all staff would be furloughed. The country is in so much debt that my generation effectively has to work for more than a year for free to pay it off and I don't think its appropriate that I should still be working full time to cover a furloughed footballers salary when they can get tested every week and play. The government has handled it all terribly but on football I think they are right.

I strongly disagree with scrapping the PL. Now if we get to game 29 and it looks like City or Liverpool will win then fine scrap it or if United are top still after 31 games that will be fine (as at 80% the title would have to be awarded) but otherwise its can't be an option

Plumbers, Electricians etc aren't always essential though. There is a lot of people having work done that is in no way essential, having a new kitchen or bathroom installed after all isn't essential. If football has to stop as its not essential then we have to limit any non essential work being done by people whose can be essential

Indeed. Should be the last lockdown though.
