What do you think then - it's better off if we get relegated, and can maybe clean some slates and start afresh, or would you prefer us to stay up, and try and build again in league one?

Impossible question to answer am afraid
If we have a clear plan to get out of L2 at the first attempt and receive the backing to do it then yes
its better to start completely a fresh with a new squad of players
    OR
If we have some structure now then best to try and maintain L1 status
Which until mathematically impossible is still a possibility
All depends on the SILENT bosses

For a start, I think we'd lose a lot of the bigger earners. Either they have relegation clauses, or they get sold on because they are "too good" for league 2 football.

whilst that may be in their contract, i find the notion that any of this lot are too good for league 2 highly questionable

I find the notion that anyone will take them questionable. If anyone does take them off our hands it will certainly cost us and that will come out of next seasons playong budget under SCMP

That's why I put inverted commas.
Fortunately, and we may have criticised it at the beginning, a lot of them are loans. Scannell should find a club, as should Doyle. Wright, if he's not a total numpty, should cancel his contract and find a new club on his own. Riley - well he might have found his level and get a run a games in League 2. I'm also presuming, that maybe some of these players have relegation wage cuts in their contracts.

Where has this idea that players have 'relegation' clauses in their contracts come from?

There doesn't appear to be any substance to this in the lower leagues. The EFL's 'standard contract' has no such thing in it and in the lower leagues, most clubs and players use the EFL's standard contract.

Aj but these are Edins contracts so likely nothing like the standard ones.

When we go down, we'll be in very unsure and dangerous waters.
Staying up was essential, sadly the shower haven't the mental toughness

Its a forum, I'm just putting the suggestion out there. I don't think there is such a thing as a "standard contract" these days. Players and if a loanee, parent clubs, have all sorts of terms and conditions. These players (and agents) want to protect their income. Same way, I'd hope there's pay cuts in contracts if we get relegated.

However - as mentioned, these are Edin's contracts, so it could be anyones guess.

You might not think there is such a thing as a 'standard contract' but that contradicts what the EFL says! Their regulation on playing (rather than loan) contracts says quite clearly that ...

63.2 All contracts between Clubs and Players must be in the equivalent of Form 20 of Premier League rules (the ‘Standard Contract’).

The idea that Rahic could somehow ignore this is just his own bluster.

Your comment about loanees is just a red herring since they will all be returning to their parent clubs at the end of the season.

Absolutely no way is this club or its current personnel equipped to return from League 2 !? It was critical that we survived in League 1 and the failure of " the regime" in all its guises has put us on the road to nowhere. There is no plan; no leadership and no chance of seeing this club at this level of football again within the next 5 years or more !. In League 2 we have to start all over again with a squad that is built to play in that League and National League; because the two leagues are indistinguishable entities.

Here is a link to Form 20.

    https://static1.squarespace.com/static/579f1eef2e69cf81541f5565/t/57bc6605e58c62993057c155/1471964677468/standard+pl+contract.pdf

It is a standard contract but only in the sense that the terms and conditions are the same but the details about pay, insurance, bonuses etc including any special clauses are different for every player and are just added in schedule 2.

So yes there is a standard contract but also everyone is totally different.

Thanks for posting that. Yes, I know what Form 20 looks like which is the reason I posted what I did earlier. Of course, the important details about pay, bonuses etc are specific for each player and they are all time related, not conditional upon remaining in the current division.

And there is no provision in the standard contract for a 'relegation' clause which overrides the pay details. Nor is 'relegation' one of the criteria for either the club or the player exercising the termination provisions. In short as I posted earlier, so-called 'relegation clauses' in the lower leagues are not the norm.

We're going down without so much as a fight.

And the only way we're coming back any time soon is with new and significant investment.
