If Songo'o did go he'd go with my best wishes one of the few who looked interested that Derek brought in.

 

Well I am not going to deride the lad he had a run of games when he first came into the team where he was very good and it was said a few teams were looking at him. And the friendly against Derby apart he has been decent every time I have seen him play. I am going to hospitality at the Scarborough BPA match next Tuesday so we will see how he does but I think it is a very good signing for them

Not wishing to be rude, but which part of 'without saying any more' was difficult to understand.

 

With Kelleher, Staunton and FCD leaving I really don't see Songo'o leaving at this point. Scales and Threlkeld to leave and that's about it I reckon unless another big injury comes.

 

Not surprised. No disrespect to the lad but I never saw much in him . Avenue paying a transfer fee for him……..what next?

 

Unless there is something we don't know about his personal circumstances,it does seem very odd.A season in Scotland,away from his home comforts in Bradford would either make or break him,but going to Avenue seems like the soft option.

 

Good luck to the lad, hopefully he can play regularly and kick on. It’s a case of potential not realised for us though after signing that long contract. It highlights the need for a proper development plan for your youngsters not just give them a long contract and see if they come good.

 

I'm not sure that the main focus of the academy is to bring through youngsters for our team but rather to sell them and hopefully get a slice of future transfer fees if they make it.

 

He was very unfortunate picking up that bad injury when he did he was never given a proper chance after that.People who have seen a lot of Charlie Wood say what a good player he is going to be but is he going to get a chance in front of the players in front of him with decent contracts.

 

The lad showed a lot of potential a while back and looked like he would make it as a pro but never kicked on and he himself should take responsibility for that. He could still make it but it's going to be from further down the football pyramid and will be a lot harder.

 

Apparently someone does know but he isn't saying, mum's the word Fawlty!

 

It's a bit odd that they've paid a fee for him but only given him a one year deal with option of another. They must have paid peanuts.

 

It's a strange one. Two years left with us and turns down a season long loan in Scots Champ in favour of signing for BPA Part-time.
Weird.

 

The idea for FCD and Staunton getting those long deals was definitely to sell them - but we didn't even play them, so who's going to come in with a big money offer?

What is actually compelling the big clubs to pay for lads who've signed pro deals anyway? If they sign them earlier, 14-16, they can pretty much do so with impunity without having to negotiate with a zealous club looking to make a name for selling their young players for good money.

Unfortunately the deck is stacked against us.

I'm not sure what we can do in the current situation other than back the lads with deals - aside, of course, from ensuring we actually play them enough to put them in the shop window.

Part of me wonders if we'd played Staunton consistently at 18 whether someone would have eventually pulled the trigger - but we didn't, and in truth we've had a confused approach to how we handle youngsters coming through to the first team. If we don't commit to them and potentially forsake promotion, they won't attract offers. But if we do insist on blooding them and playing them regularly, we'll probably spend the rest of our days in League Two, or League One at a push.

Unfortunately for us, our confused approach has ensured a) no offers for our 18 year olds graduates and b) no promotion either.

 

He might have mentioned something but I think he got away with it

 

Have you had a Mr Whippy recently the ice cream van stops outside our house the granddaughter went out to get 3 X 99s and got 50p change out of a £5, but it did have the full works hundreds and thousands, nuts and strawberry sauce on, last year they were £1 each .

So Reece is worth a few 99s, looks like the Stan's have paid over the odds.

Wasn't there chatter on here about Arsenal watching him a season or two ago?! Hopefully this kicks starts his career. Big move for him. It's now or never for the lad now. Gambling on his own belief in himself. I guess he could even move on and back to league football in the January transfer window if he does well.
