Someone was talking parallel universes the other day, HH at VP would be proof of multiverses. Would love to see him here though, could at least teach our defenders how to defend.

He’d take one look at us and say no thanks. Grayson did the same.

There’s so much much wrong with the club at the moment that I truly believe if we survive this season, we’ll be down the next. We’re in a tailspin and don’t have the skills to get out of it.

There has to be change very soon. You need about 45-50 points to stay up and about the same number goals. Even if we get say five points from the six games you list, and that’s a tall order, we will have 25 games to get maybe 30 points to stay upz According to transfermarkt he’s averaged less than a point a game in this spell as manager.

Keeping McCall and not bringing in reinforcements for more than a few weeks will see this club relegated.

Sadly it seems as though this initiative is about nine months too late.

Rhodes should have realised that one of Stuart’s ‘performance areas’, that needed additional input was in transfers, yet seemingly did nothing about it.

Personally more than happy to have a chief scout. But looking at this when we are in the relegation zone and three weeks away from the transfer window opening..........is a little like shutting the barn door, after the horse has bolted.

We were in the same situation as all the other clubs in March. We seem to have just drifted into this position, no purposeful planning. McCall’s recruitment this summer has at the best, been very questionable.

Just who are the club going to attract? Old pro’s, other clubs under 21’s? I really cannot see many decent League Two quality players at the prime of their playing career, in peak fitness, signing for City.

We already have the aged, over 30’s, old pro’s signed in Clarke and Evans, who sadly given ‘wear and tear’ are prone to injury. Only O’Donnell seems to be fit.

We brought in Sutton (why) and Watt (young promising, but not the finished product), plus resigned Cooke who seems to struggle to assert himself.

He gave Dylan Motley-Henry a contract, apart from being a home grown EFL ticking candidate, he offers the skills of someone who has the football equivalent of ‘learning difficulties’.

Samuels looks like he is nowhere near ready, and Hossanah although decent, may well be prone to injury.

A raft of academy players, which history tells us, have struggled to make it, two or three might do, but not as many.

I blame McCall and Black, but I also blame Rhodes, someone with over 20 years experience in the game, who has seen a turnover of managers, experienced poor recruitment in the past and in appointing Stuart for a third time, must have been aware of the areas that he struggles with.

I worry that this is something which is too little and too late. A ‘sticking plaster to a gaping wound’.

Bit of a random question but does anyone know whether we still have an option to furlough players, for as long as the scheme is running....?

Bang on the money Rod was the question ever asked with regards help in the transfer market and how would it be financed would it reduce the transfer budget, all questions we know little about, but as has been posted in the past Romain Vincelot was Greg Abbott's recommendation and Timothy Dieng was a JohnTumble Dreyer recommendation I believe Colin Doyle our £1 keeper was recommended by the goal keeping coach at the time, so I'd suggest McCall isn't adverse to help with regards transfer dealings.

Successful football managers can generally recruit their own players without 3rd party intervention. Imagine what clough or shankley would have said to this proposal?

If you can't effectively recruit your own players, you should stick to coaching, if you can't work out formations etc, then perhaps avoid coaching roles with the word ' head in their title.

most successful managers don't have such high opinion of themselves that they can realise their own short comings, where they need help and delegate accordingly.

McCall's demands when he came back about having to be named 'manager' not coach and being 100% in control of everything came back to bite him on his arse. most successful clubs have a head of recruitment to support the manager after the manager gives him a type of player required, attributes they want and the HoR goes out and finds them, brings back options and the manager has final decision.

we don't just need points now, we needed them yesterday and last week. games are coming thick and fast this season. how did McCall ever think that he could plan and carry out training sessions, scout opposition, analyse games and do the whole recruitment process on his own.

One of the greatest skills as a manager is to undertake a holistic assessment of the situation. Prioritise certain areas, appoint people you trust and are competent to develop those areas, perhaps ones which you have less success in and which you cannot spend the necessary amount of time on.

Absolutely this. I own a medium sized Metalwork Company in Halifax who employ 23 people. It’s impossible to all the work on your own, you employ good people to do the work for you - who probably do it better because they only have to focus on the job in hand, not a multitude of things. Building a good team is what makes a business successful, not being pig headed and stubborn like our current set up. As we are set up we are absolute set up to fail as we have absolutely no leadership. It really is a sad state of affairs.

Things have moved on from Clough and Shankly’s days though haven’t they? Even outside football the omnipotent head of the business doesn’t work, you let your managers manage their departments and focus on growing the business. You can’t do it all yourself. Intent based leadership.

I heard McCall said nobody else in the division had a DoF. So what? Challenge the norms and do things in a different way, employ statisticians and data analysts as part of recruitment, learn from what others do right or do wrong and improve on it. Any business which employs people who say ‘we do it like that because we always have’ and fails to evolve to a changing environment is on a fast track to failure. Like being one place off the bottom of the football league.

Do you think Klopp, Guardiola or Mourhino do all the research on which players to sign? Fergie didn’t. They work as a team, they will say to their scouting team I need X, the scouts will research, analyse on and off the field qualities of the player, determine value for money over the duration of a contract and then watch them in action many times before they make a decision to recommend to the manager.

We can research and scout all we like with or without a Director of football but if the agent asks for more than 10 bob a week we are out of it

If no one else has a DoF in L2, then someone should tell Martin Ling at Orient or Tony Humes at Colchester they haven't got jobs or maybe he told David Holdsworth on Saturday that Carlisle don't have a DoF?

Total pipe dream but he transformed bolton even before the stats and science side really came onto the scene. What better man to use to get the club where we need it to be. The owner is wealthy enough to build a good training complex and what better man to have at the heart of it than big Sam? We’ve no chance as one we pay peanuts and two have no ambitions to back an ambitious project.
He won’t have been talking about a club as low as us I don’t think however

We don't have the ambition or wherewithal to speak to someone like that. But I wouldn't rule out another club at this level bringing him in. He's achieved as much as he's ever going to achieve at the top end of the game, he's minted. If he purely wants a project, something where he can build a new legacy at a fresh club, the level probably doesn't matter.
