Raise budget or reduce expectation!

So, say, you think that say 20 of our rivals will have a better retained list than ours? That of course assumes we bring in say five Poleon equivalents, so that we really do have this relegation battle that apparently is inevitable

 

I don't think you can blame him for leaving - he's expected to deliver a promotion - yet is not given the budget to achieve it.

why would he (ego and all) risk his reputation and harm his future job prospects by taking on a job that he's probably not going to be able to deliver whats expected of him.

 

I never said 20 teams, but our retained list has the likes of NKP on it, Poleon on it, McCartan on it, Chicksen - none of these are good enough for what Rahic is expecting Simon Grayson to deliver. they all need replacing but the budget isn't been provided to do it.

3. “keep quiet and take back seat - where is the statement?”

There are only two or three teams that can give him that though.we dont have a rich fanowner who is willing to throw away millions without return and we don’t have parachute payments like Sunderland will have. We also don’t bring In enough revenue from ticket sales. We also have bigger fixed costs with double the rent of the average division one club and remember many own the ground and have no rent at all. So at the moment we can not compete with the leading clubs for budget

 

There's only two or three clubs willing to give him a top 6 budget with a retained list of players better than ours?

Grayson is going to walk into either Scunthorpe or Barnsley - both of which are better equipped to gain promotino than we are, both budget, current squad and infrastructure but Edin is not just hoping to compete with them, he's EXPECTING to and for that reason you can't really blame Grayson for leaving.

 

I don’t blame him I blame ourselves for taking him on in the first place without a long term contract. Because it’s clear he is priced out of means as he is to most of League one and all it’s done is stoked the fires of discontent a bit more

It's OK saying lessons have been learned, but if you have a dozen failings (an example) and only act upon 2 - You could use plural of learn correctly - BUT ......... As you suggest ........ Which ones ? Some have more importance than others, or more crucially, less significance.

Don't get me wrong, we need harmony here, the club and the fans.
How MANY fans would HONESTLY pay for a £199.00 'early bird' ST ? We've had so good for so long that a few thousand felt they were being ripped off by a poxy £20.00 increase (I bet many pissed £200.00 away this last weekend on BBQ's ?). It was ground breaking to have low prices, yet to freeze them year on year was NEVER going to work, long term.

 

After what Rupp said recently I'm not sure they are expecting to compete with these teams as he won't risk it financially.

To me Grayson looks now like a lazy manager who needs the biggest budget to get promoted rather than working with a top 10 budget and trying to use his wealth of experience and knowledge (ego) to get promoted automatically or via the play offs.

Maybe the confidence of the owners in him was affected by the results and performances so gave him a lesser budget than if he'd have come in and won more games, played better football and was more positive??

 

For every twenty pound we raise them we would lose a few more and if we raised them to average league one prices we would get average league one gates

 

To my recollection the last time he mentioned it was when Grayson was appointed. The aim was still promotion however we all know how that turned out.

 

I think they are. I think they genuinely think they can compete at the top end of table but do it cheaper. and thats why I think Grayson has walked, because he knows its highly unlikely to happen.

 

I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson will go down as a lazy manager for not leaving rich boys Man Utd and winning the Premier League with Southampton.

Bottom line, as a manager, you don't get endless work unless you get endless results.

No reason to blame Grayson at all. He thinks we are a poor choice, and rightly turned us down.

Very true Ronnie and again is something that is brought forward from the previous owners. Great for us that tickets were frozen but as business men you would have thought that Lawn and Rhodes would have said hold on this is substainable when running a business/football club. Season tickets stay the same price but the cost of players/wages/agents is going up - doesn't make business sense.

 

Didn't think that in February when he took the job.
