    DoF doesn't need to have a dedicated way of football they just have to agree on a course of action and oversee it if the club say 442 with tons of kids then that's that if the club decided experienced pros would be the best way then why isnt that possible

    McCall brought through 4 or 5 young players last season lol

    I knew it wouldn't be a popular suggestion given that Stuart is seen as a huge failure due to his most recent stint - however, when an extremely experienced pro footballer moves into such a role, they RARELY have any experience putting structures into place. What they have is knowledge, and I think you're intentionally understated Stuart's skillset, but that's okay. Stuart or no Stuart, we need a club man (it starts with a club man usually) with a similar level of experience. None come to mind other than McCall, but by all means I'd consider other candidates.

    But what makes no sense to me - absolutely none - is the idea that because Stuart might not be perfectly suited, as you say, that we're better off without.

    No, sir. Definitely not.

    Without an experienced DoF with a ton of expertise, we've got Rupp, Ryan and Adams - and it's only because that trio is so weak in terms of experience that I'm even discussing potential DoF's in the first place!

    We need to move beyond the idea Rupp and Ryan are enough. Now, I'm not saying either is not GOOD enough, I'm saying that there simply isn't enough experience between the two of them to ensure this club moves forward over an extended period of time. In all likelihood, Adams will move on within two or three years. Ryan could easily move onwards and upwards. We need someone in a long term advisory capacity who isn't going to go anywhere at the slightest whiff of a better opportunity.

    So candidates?

    Without doing any research, we might be looking at David Wetherall? Past that I'm really struggling to find someone...

    Some fans need to get over their obsession with McCall and trying to create a role for him.

    I respect and love the man as much as any fan, but we need to let go. Besides, he has a role at Blackpool now anyhow.

    Can’t we ask mr Jewell if he fancies a stint in the role of DOF . Wasn’t that what he was doing for Swindon?

    He was at the Forest Green game, but I cant see Adams wanting any sort of input into the way he runs the football side, very much like Phil Parkinson.

    Only because his recruitment in the summer was an unmitigated disaster. DMH and Austin Samuels. Come on.

    Recruitment was poor - and as we know the support / lack of backroom staff left the club wanting and what were the instructions from the people holding the purse strings and what they were prepared to input financially.

    Only time McCall should be at city again is for the half time draw ! How many chances does one man can get a club ? You wonder why we’re crap when people come up with these sort of suggestions

    Eh?

    Two pages ago you said he should be manager again "under the tutelage of Neil Warnock".

    Have you changed your mind or just forgotten what you wrote the other day?

    Or maybe you're really just a WUM and you've proven it!

    To be fair he does catch a fair few whoppers on here though, literally jumping in the net before he's thrown the bait off the boat.

    I wouldn’t say Adams is inexperienced at all. He’s probably the most successful manager we’ve employed and he’s experienced what clubs need to get promoted. He’s already sorted the scouting role out, although we won’t know how successful that is until January. As @Bronco@Bronco has said, I can’t see Adams working under a DoF at all, particularly another inexperienced one.

    DoF = Salary.
    Salary = One less player.

    Clubs in League Two do not need a DoF if they employ the right manager.

    This club really doesn’t need anyone learning on the job in the board room.

    Clubs in League Two do not need a DoF if the people who own them are weighing in with their own opinions and/or expertise.

    Even an owner who isn't necessarily a football expert will have a very strong opinion on the way their club is run.

    Since we clearly lack that, that's why we need a DoF.

    We aren't like most other clubs in this division - we don't have even mild interest or knowledge from our owner, and Sparks is second fiddle to Adams in terms of strategizing and you will struggle to change my mind on that matter.

    You don't think it's like that at FGR, do you?

    A director of football at most levels is a complete waste of time and money, Put the money where it works best in a good manager and coaching staff,
