All irrelevant as we have a capable manager in place already who is going nowhere

He is coming up 73 years of age. Irrespective of this fact, he lives near Stoke Climsland, hardly on the doorstep of City. A mere 330 miles and a 5 hour 30 minutes (on a good drive) away.

Unless he wants to become an investor, then there is zero credibility in this very tenuous suggestion. More of a chance of winning the lottery, and spending the money to make the odds reasonable.

Agree, but he took that post on over 18 months ago. A club like Middlesbrough is more likely to be able to fund some form of transport like a chauffeur or a light aircraft. Travelling that sort of distance, as you become older, becomes very tiring. A working relationship, rather than say a holiday, is onerous. If we were to appoint someone, l would hope that they were located somewhere closer to city so they could be involved regularly enough to make a reasonable difference.

Absolute crackpot idea. Adams has more recent experience of promotion from this division than Warnock (who is 72 and an absolute dinosaur) and Stuart has never won anything, even four matches on the trot, as a football manager.

I'd install Stuart McCall as Director of Football tomorrow.

Stuart is City through and through with a ton of experience. You can't buy the amount of knowledge Stuart has.

Bear in mind, a DoF isn't responsible for tactics or the day to day training a manager does - so his lukewarm performance as manager is largely irrelevant.

I imagine Stuart would be pro-youth and thus an advocate for bringing through academy players, and that would largely mean ensuring the academy is playing the same style of football as Adams. That wouldn't mean Adams had to play kids if he didn't want to; but it would be a long term goal that would go beyond Derek.

It just isn't right allowing DA to take up this role when he's a three year plan man (by his own admission).

Even if Adams gets us to the Championship, it's absolutely IMPERATIVE that we plan long term - which we absolutely are not doing. I don't care if fans are a little bit sick of Stuart, he is OUR legend that would always work for the very best outcomes for the club. He's had a better managerial career than, say, Barry Fry and operated at a higher level, and Barry Fry is an excellent and integral figure at Peterborough.

And then when Adams gets up to his usual tricks (tactics/subs etc) the shout of "Stuart Stuart" would ring around the stadium...

Bang on mate. Sparks is young and learning and doing a lot behind the scenes, he certainly hasn't been a disaster. He is copping stick because our results have been disappointing points wise. The one consolation is that we are creating a host of chances, more than anyone else in this average league. Had we converted only a few of those chances and been 10/12 points better off Sparks wouldn't have been criticized like he has been because the whole atmosphere would have been more positive.
Sparks is a young lad learning (which you always are in that job) so it is easy to make him the scapegoat for disappointing results.
On the pitch it is work in progress, which you would expect when a new manager comes in. There are players out of contract at the end of the season, some of them may leave in January so let's wait and see how we look after then. Personally in my view if we are in touch at Christmas I haven't given up on this season

Love Stuart to bits mate but you are right. Adams will do for me for now, he's only just started with a new club and we are only a third of the way through the season.

You mean the same Stuart McCall who re-signed Dylan Motley Henry and thought his squad was good enough after the first lockdown?

Not for me. Ambassador yes, DoF definitely not.

I don't see what relevance one signing makes.

Alex Ferguson once thought Massimo Taibi would be a great signing.

Plenty of managers get their assessments of their squad wrong.

McCall also got it right plenty of times at various clubs.

Spot on. Like most on here (of a certain age) Stuart is a god like figure, but as a first team coach/ first team manager he is a disaster waiting to happen. Possibly the most unprofessional manager we have had in the last 40 years. His latter radio interviews showed he couldn't hack the pressure/ expectation and his antics in allowing the players to get hammered on a pre-season tour were stupid.

I would take him back as an ambassador any day of the week, but on the playing side, never as anything other than a coach with no influence at all on tactics, recruitment or any on the field match day issues.

I seriously doubt he will ever get another job as head coach/ first team manager anywhere in the football league.

In all seriousness I can't think of a job Stuart would be less suited to at a club, and I include first team manager in that.

What experience does he have of putting structures in place at a club? I'm not sure there is any evidence from his managerial career to suggest he is pro-youth, his only decent City team was full of experienced pros, I certainly don't recall him bringing players through and embedding them in the squad and he never really demonstrated any ability to spot talent or have a dedicated way of playing.

His contact list seems non existent, consisting of old drinking buddies at Rangers or players he's had at previous clubs.

His personality just doesn't fit with that senior, strategic role - club ambassador is the only role he should ever be considered for at VP again.
