No lack of desire. And to be fair Vernam has had a reeeeeet go this last four or five games but he appears to be isolated and used too much. If he was any better he would not be with us he is a good runner and fast and sort of can shoot the right direction albeit not between the sticks. The rest are trying just not very good quality except Angol who once again would be higher up but has a glass hamstring. Lets see how DA manages us the next few games its going to be City bumpy ride.....

 

If you read the article in the Yorkshire Post since the defeat against Man Utd U21s you get an insight into what Derek Adams thinks about the players he has at his disposal.
He says "People are clamouring to be given opportunities and they've had that, they can't say to me they haven't had any game-time." I've given every single person at this football club an opportunity. I've seen them - the players that were here last year and the ones that have come in. We only had three new players in the team from the start on Tuesday so that shows you how much we've got to change going forward".
"I've come in and assessed it. I know what I've got to do to go forward and nobody can have any complaints."
That makes very interesting reading.

 

I am sorry sir but although have to say I do admire your cander I take exception to the use of the word "crap". I prefer to think that those players are not up to the standard required.

 

6 games without a win now and we’ve scored 2 goals in that spell, had 4 blanks and let in 11 goals. One of those games Walsall were down to ten men too

Adams seems to be getting a free pass because of everything been laid firmly at Turnbulls door. There is no way Adams has not had a big say in that recruitment. He didn’t get the forward he wanted and that’s one of the main reasons he got rid of Turnbull.

I am not advocating for pressure to be applied so early in his stint as manager but we look woeful at times. Don’t really look like scoring and concede goals for fun. Our fitness/physio department again looks shoddy. We either have signed players who are injury prone or once again we don’t know how to look after them. It’s ok bemoaning the chances missed but can’t defend the way we do.

we were taking the efl trophy seriously and have lost both 3-0 without even looking like scoring.

A lot of work to do and we have to start seeing some improvements soon. We looked better under Trueman and Sellars with a lesser squad. Adams needs to front it up and not hide behind recruitment

Who recruited the sports science and recruitment staff - that have failed? Should he not be saying something about why it has failed?

 

Changing up the midfield 2 of Evans and Watt will help. They're both far too pedestrian and we need some energy and power in there. I'd be happier with the pairing we had last night or at least one of them coming in to break up the struggling partnership.

 

Try telling that to the club, apparently if you get to the latter stages it's welcome income especially for a cash strapped league 2 outfit.

Partly agree with your sentiment. The problem we have is inexperience at the highest levels. Sparks brought Turnbull in because he didn’t have the knowledge to recruit what was needed. He’s brought Adams in because of his success in getting promotion. None of us know what hand Adams played in the backroom of his previous clubs, so if he’s seen where we’ve gone wrong and wants to help set us up for the future, then we can only trust him to do so. Parky had free reign and was successful, W just need to make sure we’re not left with our pants down if Adams decides to leave.

 

Ever thought that the budget of £2.7m is something that the manager can't handle having never previously worked with such a figure. He got Morecambe promoted on less than half that last season. Maybe the club is paying its players too much and that they are not that hungry enough to want to test themselves in a higher league being more than happy to pick up their monthly 'fat' pay check. A complete clear out from top to bottom is needed but that will not happen until the close season, assuming that the current manager is still in place. Adams builds teams on players with hunger and a desire to win. I see very little of that in the current over payed crop of misfits.

 

Adams has brought success to every club with a budget far less than the £2m mentioned. Last season his team got promoted with players not wanted at other clubs and without spending a single penny on players. Money most certainly doesn't guarantee success. I still maintain that it's a lack of desire in an over payed squad that is the root of the problem and until there is a complete clear out EFL2 will remain the club's home for many seasons to come.

 

This 100%. I doubt the likes of Lavery, Kelleher and Robinson will be on mega bucks, but could we have got more bang for our buck elsewhere? Absolutely.

 

Agree. If we're in the top seven mix come January, which I think we will be, promotion/play offs will only be achieved by three or four key signings. We should all be aware of how recruitment occurs - Turnbull will have identified 5/6 players at least for each position Adams was looking at in the Summer. For many and various reasons to do with money, length of contracts, players not wanting to uproot from hundreds of miles away, first and second choices will have gone quite quickly. No disrespect to Theo Robinson, but I would guess he would have been a long way down the potential choices, but that's what we got. Ergo, Adams not happy at all with Turnbull because we ended up in the last chance saloon. Let's see what comes in early October with the new Recruitment Policy/Appointments.
