There are enough quality players in that squad for a successful season if they are managed and coached right

The thing is you need goals to get promoted, you mention quality and a few others on here have said similar at times but when you look through most of the squad’s careers there aren’t many why score regularly or create regularly either. Walker is a key but he’s been injured all season, which obviously wasn’t in the management teams plans but it’s left us painfully short when it comes to creativity. One player has scored lost our goals and that isn’t sustainable.

Nevers 0 starts but a couple of cameo appearances from the bench
Costello 2 starts after a long injury and subbed both games
    Clayton 1 full game
    Bola 1 full game
Derbyshire 0 starts but played 25 minutes

    What a stupid post

Agree with regards our January window with players Hughes has had at his disposal he should have identified our weaker areas and brought maybe two quality players to boost that squad not the numbers he's brought in.
I was impressed with Clayton and the kid Nevers even though it has only been minutes rather than a start, yes early days but when you bring players in during the January window they have to be up to speed and show they bring more to the game than the previous incumbent.
When we brought Walker down (wasn't he a Adams signing) you saw in his first game he had the ability to do things others couldn't/didn't.

I'm just keeping an eye on the scores. No surprise that Swindon are losing - their worse than us for losing when they should win and Gillingham now look a top 10 team (which makes it great that we get to play this new improved team twice of course)

The table might change, but at the start of the season if you'd given me 8th at the end of January with a guarantee of been 5th if we won our game in hand and thus just four points off the team in third place - I'd have said that's OK.

Slowly ending up where we belong .... just below mid table. I hope Rupp is taking notice of our manager's performance this year which continue to bewilder in terms of formation, squad make up and passion even if we are flirting with the play offs.

Currently, if either Lewis or Crichlow get injured then as far as I'm concerned we are done. No one else in the squad has played well enough not to be changed, well apart from Andy Cook but then Hughes thinks otherwise.

A team that's had a 'meh' run since October, but has improved in the last five matches - albeit only marginally.

If we get 20 Salford type performances, I'm getting my map out for directions to Leeds Road (not hard I only live three miles away and get the 'pleasure' of seeing that ground - thankfully, from a distance each day)

20 performances, like we had in the last 30 minutes and we could end up lower than last season

    We've just beaten Salford.

Drawn at a team that has lost just 1 in 13 and had five shots on target.

Drawn at a team that top the form table of the last three months.

Yet we belong just below mid-table?

I'm fine with realism, but this is downright pessimism. In order for us to be 13th or lower then that means you think there are 12 teams better than us.

Who are they? Because to be quite honest I can only think of four (Top 2, Northampton and Stockport)

And of course, next season, we could be playing them Sheff Wed, Rotherham, Barnsley and Hull (unlikely now) and that means we'll definitely blow promotion ;)

    And?

    16 points clear of us.

We need to concentrate on ourselves who are now 8th.

I think I might take a walk into Huddersfield, with my City scarf and hat on.

Problem is our kit is remarkably similar to Huddersfield Giants :(

I still have lots of bad memories of Town away matches.
In fact when my daughter had to go to their stadium for her covid jab last summer I couldn’t bring myself to go anywhere near.So I parked near the cinema and made her walk the last bit.

Interestingly, the teams that were promoted last season were in 1st; 8th, 9th and 16th at the end of January.

A lot to play for yet

Yes. It's often the way outside The Premiership.

    The L1 season we qualified for the first play offs (15/16) - on this date;

    1. Gillingham were 12 points clear in 2nd didn't even get in the play-offs
    2. Coventry were 6th and would also fail
    3. We were 11th
    4. Barnsley, who ended up winning the play-off final, were 13th seven points outside the play-offs. For the rest of the season they got an amazing 33 points more than Gillingham.

    Anything is possible

Great summary and yes, I think that's the problem.

We've seen all the teams and realise that really we're as good as any - but had brain fades against Orient and Northampton and didn't turn up for the annual away defeat at Carlisle.

But on the other hand, I was impressed by how we held off Walsall (best team for me) and those Salford wins plus Mansfield away were also very good.

And that just means, really we can do - but not if the players lack belief and wimp out like we did against Rochdale.
