No need to worry Kevin it won’t happen. In about a months time Simon Parker will announce that the lad from Crewe who was a target of ours has gone to Gillingham, and that we simply couldn’t compete with Gillinghams offer. We will however get some 19 year old kid on a season long loan from under 23 Premier league side and fans will say how the kid must be good to have played there.

Waddle was well past his sell by date, has soon as Peter reid wanted him, he got his stuff and tryed to sneak out of valley parade. You only have to look at the scoring stats to see we would have been sunk with out cook.

Waddle was our best player in that side by a mile!

Clearly he wasn't at his peak, he obviously wouldn't have been here if he was but to dismiss him as "well past his sell by date" is poor imo.

What a player and I'm very, very glad I saw him wear our shirt. Some of his performances, like Huddersfield away, will live long in the memory.

My favourite City player bar none. That goal at Everton will live in the memory for ever. We were side on to the pitch at that end and I could see Southall was off his line. As the ball fell for him I just shouted, 'Go on Chrissie, hit it.' Did we ever see a better City goal? Incidentally, I once went down to VP for some reason mid-afternoon. It was pouring with rain but I could see a lone figure on the pitch practising free kicks. All the rest of the players were long gone, but at the age of 39 or whatever there was Chris Waddle, still trying to improve. What a guy.

Waddle was sheer class, we still haven't had anyone who could routinely curl corners in, have we? Let alone pick out long range chips over top class keepers?

It's a long time ago, but my impression is Waddle was better in that side than Carbone was when we brought him in. Obviously Benito was an extremely talented player, but he never suited us at all. I think having Ward/Carbone, two guys who couldn't score with any sort of regularity, was one of the main reasons we went down.

He wasn’t too shabby in the cup game at Everton Dave. One can feel privileged in seeing him in the C&A along with Carbone.

Course it's not, the end of the world comes in the form of Hughes insisting on playing that stupid 4/2/3/1 again and trying to shoehorn Vadaine Oliver, who is basically a more well built James Hanson, into that system. Can you imagine where we would have been in 2013 if Parky played 4/2/3/1 with Hanson as a lone striker ?

If Cook leaves, and I think he will, then we need to play two up top and the second striker needs to be someone who can feed off Oliver's presence

Waddle was probably the single best player we have had in my lifetime, with the possible exception of Roy McFarland. Past his best ? I nearly PMSL at that, he got a chance to re-ignite his career, to extend it by a couple of years and he took it.

Chris Waddle was a superb footballer. He was a joy to watch. 3 Corners at Huddersfield he was brilliant. The goal against Everton in the cup, was very special. Two players scored season winning goals on the same day Chris Waddle and Trevor Sinclair. I was heartbroken when left.

Waddle was still very good but clearly past his best. He was playing in world cups and european cup finals in his pomp. And playing for Falkirk and Bradford after.

Rahic left around 23rd November, 2018 and the damage already done ran through to relegation in Spring 2019 when the first opportunity to start the rebuild landed. Since then there have been massive changes off the pitch, new foundations in place and paying off, commercial income for one is now a force rather than a side show as it was under Rahic and JR/ML.
I did say 5 years and stand by it. The fact it isn’t 4 after this season is disappointing me as much as anyone but I remain convinced about 5 years which is success this time next year. Sadly my forecast was and still is based on what I saw with that odious guy.

Definitely a lot of progress off the pitch. The last 12 months encouraging on the pitch too.
We've a big season coming up with a lot of players and MH OOC at the end of 23/24.
Hopefully we can hit the ground running this time.

It appears that the club is moving on from the dark days of Rahic and it's encouraging to hear from Sparks how successful the commercial side of the business has been. He was expecting a turnover of more than £8m, helped by the commercial income. That should provide a great platform on which to improve the playing side. The implication of the increased turnover is that the SCMP regime would enable the playing budget to increase to around £4.5m if that's what Rupp and Sparks choose to do. That's potentially a great playing budget in our division and should allow the club to assemble a squad capable of mounting a promotion challenge ... if spent wisely.

There were times I'd see him make a pass which would roll out of play to groans, but it wasn't that the pass was bad, it was due to one of our players not making the decisive run that they should have done. He was above our level in so many different ways
