I don't really think thats a straight comparison. Did Samuel Colston for example become a successful slave trader for the good of the people or to make loads of money?
R.E the peel statue and peel park, people are well within their rights to petition for something to be taken down. as someone has done, start a petition to save it if you feel it should be saved. Nobody has forcibly removed anything so far so to me there is no issue at all with at the very least a discussion on the issue.

T&A have done a poll too.
On Colston did he become a successful slave trader? Or did the company that he invested in and help manage trade in loads of different stuff with slaves being just a small part. Were they successful at it as I’ve read they lost kids during transportation, not very successful -
On his release Nelson Mandela did a lot of good and for a while united the country, and that will be his legacy.
Slavery was a bad thing in history but it's part of history and we can't change that. The statues we put up are there to remind us of historic events, good and bad events, that's history.
I'm 63 and when I was at school in history we were taught about the good and bad side of the "Triangular Slave Trade". Had it been for the slave trade would North America be as multicultural as it is today?
On the subject of slavery, apparently it is alive and kicking, in Africa! Is that not worth protesting about? -

If nothing else, it all appears to have moved the discussion away from the handling of the ongoing corona virus. That’s not to say the discussion shouldn’t be had, of course it should, but it seems to be a bit of a distraction, also setting people on each other. Will it still be being discussed in a months time though?
