Trouble is Akpans probably on more than them put together. He’s improved but nowhere near enough to be probably our top earner. Not his fault, just what Rahic thought he was worth, but he gave out some ludicrous contracts. And we need rid of them players, as I bet there’s far better value for money out there.

 

Akpan was terrible again on Tuesday night, Devine is a far better option than Akpan imo. Anderson and Gibson can go for me and like you say we have enough in back up in the midfielders mentioned. Still not convinced with Zeli - doesn't seem fit enough to play back to back games so we may need another wide man to cover.

 

Devine offers us nothing..

I don't know what people expect from Akpan.

Devine, Akpan, Gibson, McCartan and even Mellor can go for me.

Can say that about all the players barring maybe Harry, Everton & AOC this season this season even though we sit in automatic position.

 

Not really but even if we did its been 18 months worth of wanting more.

 

Let’s say Akpan is on £4K per week and Devine is on £500 a week, I expect Akpan as one of the highest earners at the club to be one of the top contributors. Something he’s nowhere near achieved in his time here. Are you just doing what you did with Wright and defending overpaid rubbish?

Devine is rubbish but he’s also a very cheap squad filler, a bit like in F1 where you have a number one and two driver. I expect number 1 to be them main player.

 

Devine has not looked out of place in this team and is certainly no worse than the rest of our midfield and at least is mobile and will work hard,

 

I think Devine needs confidence in himself. Something that was knocked out of him with his injuries then being played as back up right back every now and then. A settled run within a settled set up would see him blossom IMO.

 

Devine is like anderson. Both are completely inadequate for this level and contribute next to nothing and you would struggle to list any of their assets. Devine only gets away with it from a certain amount of supporters because he's "one of our own".

 

That's hard to argue against but I wouldn't say he completely inadequate at this level, I think he's found his level and could do ok. I think he's a better player now, from the bits I've seen this season than previous seasons and seems to get forward with the ball more and holds on to it too. I'm not a 'one of our own' fan I just think without being a major player in our team he's a decent squad player who's decent on the ball, far more effective than Anderson and apart from the 2 good games Akpan has had he's probably better value than him too.

 

No, I am saying that as a defensive midfielder that if you want him to play like Messi or look exciting on the ball then you will be highly disappointed.

What I am also saying is that if all eyes are on a defensive midfielders then this team has bigger issues then I thought from an attacking point of view.

I'm not defending Akpan but I expect more from Devine, Palmer, Cooke who are meant to be creative.

Akpan is our 3rd highest goal scorer.

As for the wage front, I have no idea what Apkan is on and I don't care. I don't look at it as he's on more so he should be doing better.

Devine is wasting money as he is good enough for us and never will be.

Akpan is wasting money as we need better but other players are producing worse than him. Anderson, Palmer, Vaughan to name a few.

 

He's sh&te mate and Reeves how has been out for 24 months will be ahead of him in a month.

 

In fairness to the lad he does need game time. I'm not saying he is good enough for us but he does need to play.

 

No as a defensive midfielder I want him to win his physical battles in the centre and be able to break the play up, he struggles with both not to mention how slow he is to 50:50 balls. I’m not going to sit here and defend Devine, but my point is like in any business the more money you are paid and the more senior you are the more responsibility falls on your shoulders so yes it does matter what Akpan is paid. In wage terms Akpans a general manager and Devine’s a junior admin, when the company struggles its not on the junior staff a business man like you should know this.

It doesn't take much to go a long spell playing with Junior players to be dragged down to their 'level'. Pros need pro games, or else they soon become 'also rans'.
