I was astonished to read this morning that Notts Co and Yeovil receive £500k parachute payment for dropping out of the football league. Surely someone has added an extra 0 on the end of that figure. The article is in the Daily Mail

Apparently all relegated clubs in the football league receive parachute payments. Not sure of the figure awarded to clubs dropping out of League 1, I am sure it will be nowhere near the figure quoted this morning for Notts Co

I was always under the impression it was just clubs relegated from the Premiership

Think it was @Dennis@Dennis said we do get a parachute payment £90, 000 approx, so can’t see the EFL giving £500k to non league, could be wrong.

Clubs relegated from the EFL Championship receive 11.1% of the Basic Award payment to Championship clubs for one season.
Clubs relegated from EFL League One receive 12.6% of the Basic Award payment to League One clubs for one season.
Clubs relegated from EFL League Two receive 100% of the equivalent Basic Award payment made to League Two clubs in the first year following relegation, and 50% of the equivalent Basic Award payment made to League Two clubs in the second year following relegation.

Based on last season then City get the standard L2 Basic Award of £450k plus 12.6% of £680k (£85,680)

yep. Looks like teams relegated into none league are entitled to more than teams relegated into league 2.

to be honest, i thought parachute payments were only applicable to teams relegated from the Premierleague so it's a pleasant surprise. Every little helps when you're in our position.

Bet Notts County would rather be in our position though.

Agree. That Conference is fierce. Orient have gone back up this year but its so tight and competitive at the top. Worse with one one auto promotion place. Four or five had title claims until the final weeks and the playoffs are a complete lottery.

Yes, it is around £90K and yes, the relegated teams from League 2 do receive something approaching £500k in their first season in the National League and I think it's about half that in their 2nd year.

These amounts have to be put in context. Firstly, in League 2 we'll still be receiving almost £1m from the EFL/PL for solidarity payments and our share of the EFL Sky broadcasting deal. It will however still be around £500k less than we'd have received if we hadn't been relegated from League 1! Secondly, when teams are relegated from League 2, they receive no central support in the National League and the additional payment from the EFL is there to cushion the effect.

A lot of it is because the drop off in finances between L1 & L2 is smaller such than L2 & national league suchas teams in non league get 0 funding for youth development

On a different note I read some speculation somewhere that because of our spending this year unless Rupp puts in a sizeable sum before June we may have broken the financial fair play rules is that true

The person quoting that also suggested we'd have points deducted for breaching FFP which is just nonsense. Clubs who fail FFP are subject 'only' to a transfer embargo and not a points deduction That makes me very sceptical about the rest of his suggestion. I suggest you take the suggestion with a large dollop of salt! And from a more positive viewpoint, we've also had other income this season from sell-ons which would help avoid exceeding the FFP limit. That seems to have been ignored or forgotten by many.

Stuff which is reported on social media can sometimes be very important but it needs to be subject to some healthy scepticism rather than just taken at face value. By relying on the regurgitation of what has been posted and reposted on social media, we often mistake rumours for factsjust because they have been repeated. The famous or rather infamous 'I've heard that ... ' or 'I understand that .. ' often really means little more than it was tweeted or posted on a site like our own. Opinions are great; rumours masquerading as facts can be dangerous.
