Thought Payne was joining a Championship side? Wasn’t it Birmingham? I recall someone trying to start an argument this week about him joining a bigger team and thus on more money than McCartan?

 

I think the lad is getting a bit of unfair stick, lets not forget the very poor players around him who rearly showed up.

I believe it has been mentioned (by your good self) and others, as he was certainly one of our better performers during that spell opposition players closely marked him not allowing him space and many times having two players on him.
The likes of Scannel will get similar treatment this coming season if he stays because one on one is difficult with a player who has more ability than the man in opposition.
We've seen it so many times over the years.

 

I agree, Dave ............ BUT ......... It's up to other players to take advantage of that. TWO men on one player leaves 'one' spare on our side, does it not ? THAT was our (and Paynes) greater failing, last season.

On O'Connor, the deal with Leeds is that they have a sell on clause, which was in exchange for us not paying a transfer fee.If we ever sold him, both clubs would benefit.

Not sure what the sell on clause is but i'm assuming it's around the usual 15-20% mark.
