Oliver Joins Stevenage

Good deal for all parties, hopefully a few more to follow him out of the door.

 

Good move for him and us, hope he does well there which should make our life much easier to offload him in the summer.

 

Maybe he will but it's no big deal. He wouldn't get those goals for us as he won't get enough game time so it's better to free up the space for someone who suits our squad better and will hopefully contribute more.

I was really pleased when we signed him. I still think there's a decent player there but he's spent more time on the operating table than he has the pitch for us.

 

Except now Cook will become lazy knowing he’s the first name on the team sheet with nobody on the bench to challenge for his place.
Unless…..There’s an imminent arrival of Cole Stockton.

He's been top scorer every season since he signed, even in the season he only signed in January.

I wish all our players were as lazy as Cook.

 

Strange that Cooks output decreased when Oliver was injured.

 

As we mentioned yesterday Oliver had his chance to keep Cook on the bench when he had his run of games in the fabled Xmas period of 2022 into early 2023.
He failed to take it and Cook returned with goals in 5 of his first 6 games back.

Cook won’t be in the slightest bothered if Oliver isn’t on the bench.
He’ll just continue to score goals

He must have had an amazing record when Oliver was fit then considering he hit 33 goals and Oliver missed huge chunks of the season.

 

No competition for Cook now, means he's going to miss even more sitters, fall over the ball even more, expect the ball to his feet.. chase nothing and just complain when he's bundled over by a 3ft dwarf.. oh and expect even more horrendous first touches with a stretch over the ball, falling over and complain... at least its entertaining.. for all the wrong reasons

 

You could argue that the start of this season but Oliver was basically injured the last 3 months of last season and Cook was fine then. Agree though that we need another option for Cook e.g. Stockton, Wyke, someone in that mould rather than a little guy like Smith/Wright/Young etc..

 

As mentioned in another thread yesterday it's a good move for everyone. He has the chance to get a run of games. If he does well then we have the option in the summer either of trying him again or we have an asset we can sell.

I get the whole competition for Cook argument but personally I'd prefer us to spend any probably small remaining budget be spent on someone to start alongside Cook rather than on a bench/backup player to Cook.

 

He should be first name on the team sheet, who else at this moment in time is going to score?

 

check his goal conversion ratio, 15% for a striker is terrible, the amount of chances he needs to put 1 away is criminal..
