O'Connor - useless

Have to disagree. The amount of goals coming directly from Percival mistakes is frightening. But like I said in another thread, it's not just that but his complete lack of effort and fight is worse than all the other players. Which is saying something.
I hope he never wears a city shirt again.

I agree he is out of position a lot of the time, something I have mentioned to people I go to games with. Yes the defence is poor and making mistakes some of this however is down to the fact we have no forwards that can hold the ball up, and bar the O’Brien’s no midfielder that looks as though they have the slightest inclination to attempt to make a tackle. This just results in the defenders being under pressure more often than they should be, as I say they have by no means helped themselves with performances but they are not being helped by the rest of the team either.

I had serious reservations about our defence last season, the stats just don't lie - Kilgallon is well-missed right now, but he and NKP formed the worse centre back pairing in years (statistically speaking), but they got defended because those stats reflected the entire teams' ability to defend.

Under Stuart, we were a good footballing side with a soft underbelly. NKP was a major cause of that softness.

I'm not saying he hasn't deteriorated, he definitely has, but he was never great to begin with. I was surprised and disappointed we didn't move him on in the Summer.

 

I thought he played well in the first half. They didn't put us under much pressure but when he was called upon he did well

O'Connor backs off and backs off all the time. Cov goal number 4 and previous. In fairness they all have, Mellor, McGowan, NKP. Get a freaking tackle in boys before they get to the edge of the area!! It really is schoolboy stuff in all honesty.

 

O'Connor. McGowan & NKP! Jesus H! is there any wonder we're in the Sh1t!! Awful just down right awful all three of em!

 

The centre halves must be better than this ! I think the complete lack of shape / midfield in front of them has led to them being under more pressure and now their form has just collapsed.
They can't be as bad as they are showing. I don't see a way back. How on earth are they going to play themselves back into form when every game something goes wrong.

 

I actually had to laugh after seeing the 4tb goal when O'Connor loudly and obviously bollocked Isherwood for doing the exact same *@?$ up that he had performed literally a second before.

He didn't. He was never as good as some made out.

In the playoff year, he had Meredith on his left and either a McArdle or Vincelot next to him. He also had Cullen just in front, never giving the ball away, and Law not too far a way either, shoring things up.

He's gotten worse for sure, but even when we were good at this level, he was the weakest one at the back.

 

O'Connor hasn't been great. But he's been the least shite of our defenders.

 

Disagree, that accolade goes to Wood in my opinion. Wood is the only defender on our books that I would keep. Far from the finished article, but think there is a promising player there
