@banbrotam@banbrotam its not all about how much is spent on transfers, as you say Julian & Mark spent very little on fees but paid good salaries to the payers we wanted, how you can use them as a comparision is beyond belief, lets discuss the merits of both sets of owners when Edin & Stafan have done half of what the previous owners did.

As as long as it is done at the end of their time here. I think Lawn and Rhodes did a fine job under the circumstances. But they took a lot of stick on the way. However I think at the end there was in the main a grudging approval of their reign. Let’s see what develops under the new owners then judge

But its not about judging they did it the way they thought along with Phil Parkinson would work, free transfers but desent wages, what a scoop at the time getting Andrew Davies on loan then many were saying on the old board wouldn't it be great to sign him (most though it was beyond our wildest dreams) yet they made it happend.
These guys have a marker in the sand they will do it their way if they come anywhere near our last regime I'll be happy, I dont think it requires a time limit we will see it season on season as we did in the past, hoping the past season was the start of the learning curve.

I agree with most of that but it wasn’t all plain sailing remember lawns car being attacked and all the fuss about threatening to leave VP. So I think a better judgment will be be long term. The last boards master move was appointing Parky. Let’s hope the new head coach has the same affect

That could happen at any club, you only have to see what abuse Edin took when Stuart was sacked unfortunately there will always be fans who go OTT, with regards Marks Odsal comment he enjoyed his game of bluff from time to time, yes Phil Parkinson was a master stroke, hopefully our owners can also pull a rabbit out of the hat with our next coaches appointment, and we get stability back at the club and a gradual rise up the league, as well as produce some young talent.

Are we just ignoring the wage bill? Or the fact we've been bringing in extra significant money from sell on clauses?

If you're going to seriously debate this don't just offer the half truths that back up your particular "sunshine and light" viewpoint.

The increase was net of this, up to January

The wage bill hasn't been ignored as if you take into the cup run, then we wouldn't have had the slightly inflated wages (if we had them) we had under the last regime for those 2/3 seasons

If we removed the cup run revenue, I'd put my house on that , by the time we get to September 1st, they'll have spent more in the last two season, than the previous owners. What about the pitch work, scoreboard and general infrastructure they are committed to slowly but surely improving? Or doesn't that count?

Obviously I wouldn't accuse you of having a 'sunshine and light' view of the old regime - but you'd think we'd lost Jack Walker and gained the Oystons

If your point is that it's close in spending, then maybe you're correct, but they are not fleecing the club like some think and that's the narrative I'm talking about

Nowhere did I say they were "fleecing the club", I didn't even remotely suggest that. My point was that I don't think they can work their ideology correctly without serious investment and then posted to correct your post suggesting that the transfer fees spent did mean there had been serious investment.

Never said you mentioned fleecing the club. The paragraph that was in, was relating to my general theme. Some think they are fleecing the club and so romantically talk about the previous regime in that rose tinted / sunny days in the past manner - to show we are currently getting fleeced

I think they will make serious investment, but like a lot of owners who have had a club for years and build it up slowly - they will only do this when they satisfy themselves of our potential. Meanwhile, they'll have a more cautious approach and I'm fine with that as it's more risk adverse

Shouldn't they have "satisfied themselves with our potential" BEFORE they bought the club?

I think they have and they are the same as when they took over. In fairness to them and it pains me to say, but there are still a lot of L2 aspects to the club. That takes time and money to change

I think that some of our fans misunderstood their intentions, not helped by Edin's initial 'spin' of course!!

He's now reigned that in, so some assume that they're no longer as ambitous

    Embarrassing.

I was building up to a wild midweek sesh in montrose or something. Ruined my summer.

There too, went in the club bar after the game and then to a Rangers pub near Ibrox, that was an eye-opener. Stayed in Renfrew.
