We had the same last year, Harrogate did not need to put 7 past us they could have shown us some respect and stopped at 3 :(

What an absolute load of rubbish. You play to win and however much that may be by.

It’s a professional sport. I’d be more annoyed if they slackened off just to make it “look closer”

Modesty comes after the final whistle. Until that point winners keep ploughing through regardless.

There's plenty of reasons Man City are the first English team to complete the domestic treble and I bet the word "modest" doesn't feature in any of them.

I think Man City cheapened themselves a bit. Game won. Goal difference doesn’t count. Sometimes a bit of modesty and respect for your fellow professional does no harm. I respect Swansea for not really battering us

If they'd let up they'd be disrespecting Watford though.

Don't think you can blame man city for going for the jugular. There's no mercy law in football and as a decent premier league team Watford should've done much better

Some funny comments on here feck me!:joy:

Imagine hypothetically next season were against bottom of the league, and go 3 up at half time. Boys don’t disrespect these plucky underdogs, go easy next half.

60th minute the plucky underdogs score a goal and gain confidence, 80th minute 3-2. Suddenly we’re hanging on for promotion because we’ve stopped trying, guess what happens next!

Thankfully professional sport is never played in that way, it’s more disrespectful to not try and patronise opposition than to go full out for the win as any respectable sports man does.

I disagree. They Man City, had the opportunity to become utter legends, if they had won 7-0. So why not go for it.

Swansea and Millwall..I will never forget that immense feeling of 'brotherhood' and I have to say,I cried with pride at witnessing my City at Wembley. To be cherished as those moments don't come around too often do they. But who knows, next season? Hope is good. :)

I'm sure if you asked the most successful managers and players in the game the question 'what's the secret to your success?' they would all answer that it's making sure you don't score more than you need to.

Agree totally, also with Man City when you strive to build such a winning mentality it is not easy to just switch it on and off - to be honest it might have a detrimental effect if you start allowing that to happen.
Watford had to score first when they were very much in the game, or straight after half time when they had another good spell - need to remember too these were 2 Premier teams, not Prem and League 2

The game of football never changes. You have 90 minutes to win and score as many as you can. As professionals you train for hours a week for that 90 minutes. And you say hold back?

    Why? Dire attitude.

Yep, can maybe rebuild a team and give it character that we can get behind, rather than a team of loanees we won't see next year

Goalkeepers showcase their talent by making saves. Not by conceding goals.

Midfielders showcase their talent by taking the ball from their half into the opposition half and finding one of their own wingers or strikers. Not by giving it away to an opponent.

Strikers showcase their talent by taking the ball, moving forwards, beating the opposition defence and goalkeeper and then scoring. Not by allowing the ball to be taken off them or shooting over the bar.

If you have that talent and the score is 12 - 0 then so be it.

This wonderful notion that somewhere back in time teams were killing it on the field with just eleven working class lads playing for beer money while the big spenders squandered their cash is somewhat amusing. Success has always been money orientated, even the spell of success we had was paid for by the bank of someone else. Take Man City for instance, their fans can count themselves the luckiest going, their owners could have picker pretty much any team in the league and their fans would have been the lucky buggers, just happened to go to the blue side of Manchester. And yes i'm an envious sod.

I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now ;), De Guzmán scored his second in extra time maybe someone should have told him were not going to humiliate Bradford City.

And Clough had no complaints, and took as a compliment the second leg team fielded by City was just as strong.
