Richardson coached that team to promotion and then won promotion on his own. Seems like a good candidate to me

Maybe Kevin Mac as payer manager with Mark Truman assisting on the touchline, Worked before with Cherry player manager and Yorath on the touchline

I get the interest about Eustace but saving a club in adverse times is a little different to pushing a team to a title.
    Look at Beale.
Did wonders at QPR then couldn't replicate it at Rangers where you really need to be at the top.
Out of all the candidates, leading a team to promotion as well as the way they like to play should be paramount.

We've a budget of nearly 3 Million pounds this season, the highest ever for this club at this level. Sparks is excelling at this side of the business.
By far our biggest issue in getting out of L2 is the managerial appointments.
When you look at clubs that have recently flirted with and stayed in the Championship from L1, I don't think it's a bridge too far. Albeit as you say, its a very difficult challenge.

We were joint 6th with 4 other teams Jon but looked miles off it most of the time and probably down to the fact that the teams that looked better than us also probably spread their goals out a bit better whereas for us, if Cook wasn't on it we simply just rarely scored.

How much did it best the previous year by though and was it due to more investment or simply an organic growth of wages that we see year on year?

It just feels a bit too simplistic to say it's our highest ever budget at this level without taking everything into account.

Completely different times now though. There's a reason why player/managers are almost non existent these days.

Given the crowds we currently achieve, then if we got to the Championship, the increase in away attendance with those sections holding around 3140 supporters, plus added interest in home support (at least while we are doing reasonably well), would probably see gates in excess of 22,000 and on a number of occasions full capacity of over 25,000 (subject to safety certificates).

I don't necessarily see the self sustainability as being at fault for us struggling to get out of league 2, more the application of the budget. The finances are there.....we ain't feckin using them correctly.

Not saying that the self sustainability mode is the fault for us struggling to get out of L2, it's one of the factors, many factors that we are still in this league.

No, not that I know of and can't think of the last one I saw at our level. There's probably been a few managers that were registered as players but I can't think of many that played much. Wayne Rooney at Derby was probably one of the few to play more than a handful of games.

If we get there, I think we should stop selling season tickets in Midland Road.

Why? There'll be plenty of teams in the championship that wouldn't fill the MR.

I think you are right. We should have bought 3/4 quality players but decided to go for quantity. However, with an injection of money with the proviso that we bought quality we could have bought more players. Nevertheless, we needed that decision before we went shopping.
