Reading the Real EFL journo piece this morning about the Cowleys, and if I believe it, it looks like they may fit us well at this time and worth a go. Apart from the football they apparently are engaging and spent a lot of time with the fans and local communities in Lincoln and succeeded in promoting the Club widely. This bit will certainly interest Ryan.

If they are going to do it properly it will take longer than that. I would hope they would interview a few people then produce a shortlist

I disagree. He's a pretty effective manager who in 12 years of management has achieved at either promotion or the play off on average every two & half seasons. Ok, he has a relegation on his hands at MKD but there are a lot worse out there and he's still only 43, so he's not a dinosaur.

He's a gobshite for sure, but he has the passion for the game that we have missed in both Bowyer & Hughes. You only notice the "gobshites" who are doing well. If they aren't relatively successful you wouldn't know them from Adam. Robinson has a touch of the "Parky" about him in that he isnt afraid to call out referees and officials.

I like him and would have him in my top three.

With the money available at Gillingham I think they will end up there

I'm sure they can do that in a week Park?
Most of the initial interview's will be done online. They could get 10 done in a day.

We aren't shopping in the same store as the Sheffield Wednesday job, which is massive and even more poisoned than ours. I doubt the Cowleys are in the frame for that, they are much more likely to go for a "Red Adair" in Warnock or a big name foreign coach.

Our competition is the Gillingham job.

Brad Galinson has put considerable funds into Gillingham. That money enabled the club to make the signings in January to avoid relegation last season. But they aren't awash with money and didn't spend a great deal in the summer.

I think given the choice of Bradford City or Gillingham they'd choose you without hesitation. My fear is they'll miss out on both.

That’s the conundrum though…we thought MH was that man! Pep could come along and fail because he won’t have sports washing oil money behind him.

I hope he does such a good job he gets the gig permanently because none of the names bandied about up to now fill me with any enthusiasm. In my time going to City all the managers that have done the best and produced good teams have been player/managers or recently retired players with little or no managerial experience.
Roy McFarland and Trevor Cherry are my 2 all-time best ever City bosses add in Kammy and Jewell and I think you've probably got 4 of the best 5 City gaffers ever! All these have 2 things in common, No managerial experience and still playing or recently finished.
Given the runners and riders up to now I would be inclined to go down that route than take another clubs failed manager.

I got a PM from a forum member saying the Sunday morning after the Harrogate game Rupp (who was staying at Julian house) called Sparks & Hughes to a meeting where Hughes was told he had the end of October to sort the football side of the club out, as it turned out he was bang on the money.

I followed Lincoln City's progress closely during the Cowleys' reign. It was how they galvanised the city as well as the club that most impressed; even more than two promotions as Champions in three seasons and an historic FA Cup run.
They trebled the average attendances at Sincil Bank and I'd predict there'd be full houses at Valley Parade within a few months of their arrival. I believe their appointment would herald a golden period for Bradford City.

Yes he was a big name but there were questions from day 1 over his ability to manage at this level and he'd never WON anything as a manager.
Look back at the thread when it was announced.

So do you advocate doing it quickly over getting the right man for the job?

    That’s complete lunacy, with respect.

Long time watcher, first time poster.

Having just returned to VP this season after a lengthy period of not (various reasons) the football was awful.

I think the best appointment right now would be the Cowleys. I saw them and the job they did at Dover and the job at Lincoln. They would fit well at City.

Another point too. Everyone's giving the CEO and Owner a hard time over this, but honestly who said at the time of Adams and Hughes's appointments that they weren't the right men for the job? Can't just say oh yeh shouldn't have hired them when it goes wrong. I would say on paper the last two appointments made a lot of sense and were vastly different from each other.

Who knows who'll get it though, because no one would have expected Hughes. Big enough club and challenge that anyone who's out of work and has been for a while might want to drop down.

Just one of many posters who had concerns from day 1.

Anybody saying Pep would fail is talking bollocks.
The guy basically rewrites the rule book.
You weren't allowed to play it to a defender in your own box until he advocated playing football from the back instead of launching it forward every time.
Pep takes players like Sterling and turns them into stars when for the most part they are average.
