Have we ever done it’. Think BFG did with Kamara and Jewell.

I’ve been reading up on Dean Holden and I’d recommend others do the same. Don’t just look at statistics - there’s a lot more to him than that.

We’ve appointed managers who have had success under adversity, Bowyer at Blackpool, Adams at Morecambe, even Hopkin at Livingstone. None of them worked. So Holden is something a bit different and could be the wild card that brings success.

What have you learnt that you liked?

I got to the bit where he likes to play three CBs and play patient passing football and that combined with the fact that he’s achieved absolutely nothing in any of his other jobs was enough to put me right off him.

Jewell was already at the club though so I imagine there weren't too many barriers to overcome.

I was shocked when he did it, Kamara hadn’t done much wrong, I presumed he didn’t see eye to eye with BFG.

Orrrrr.... we have a plan and are interviewing all the candidates in detail to see who fits the plan, rather than just appointing someone straight away without any due diligence and hoping it fits. 100% guaranteed they would be being accused of making a panic signing if they did appoint sooner, they can't win

Would have been far too early to do it straight away and nailed on they'd be criticised for doing it too soon....... but its been nearly 4 weeks. It's going past the point of weight up options and doing due diligence. It shouldn't ever take this long to interview candidates and make a decision.

Jobs at any level of the pyramid are usually filled within a week or two, if they drag out there's usually something public out there like turned down approaches like Gills have had. But it's been radio silence from us for weeks. To me it's starting to look like either Sparks can't make the decision because he's getting twitchy about another failed manager during his short run in charge. Or, it's delayed because there's something else takeover wise bubbling. Leaning towards about 95% we just aren't sure what to do and 5% takeover delay.

VDoes a foreign manager need international clearance, if so, I wonder how long that would take?.

Just putting out there a different approach to recruitment perhaps?

If not, an imminent takeover perhaps being the reason they are happy to continue with McDonald for now.

Or, are they negotiating compensation for a Manager such as Evans who is currently employed elsewhere

One thing though, without giving too much away, it would be nice to hear from Sparks right now

The due diligence on potential replacements should have been done after the Carlisle farce. Instead we offered a load of sh1te 3 year deals.
After Harrogate we should have been talking to those potential replacements.
After Walsall we should have been interviewing them in detail.

I'm pretty sure Brighton know who their next Manager will be, right now. They know De Zerbi won't be with them in 2 years time and they'll be planning ahead.

I seriously doubt high powered roles are filled within two weeks!

The word was we were interviewing a number of candidates this week and everyone was fine with that until Tuesday, now it's conspiracy theory hour after a bad loss

    L hi
The fact that he doesn't know what his preferred formation was at the clubs he's managed put me off.

Absolutely. I do get the general impression , that some think interviews are held sat with a beer and a pie..
If as I suspect, consultant(s) are involved, they all will follow a pre planned course, with due diligence completed before any invite for interview, not after.
It can get quite complex, however, IF it goes beyond next week, I suspect there is more going on behind the scenes than we all imagine.

Gills announced their new boss yet?

I'd say it was his 8 wins in 32 matches, that's cost him.

Given his shaky position, his abuse of Evans was ridiculous.

He's a decent manager. But another one with excess baggage that just wears a club down.

From Carlton Palmer in FLW (Football League World). I'm no fan of Palmer, but he is talking sense here. Note, Charlton have performed worse before he joined and after he left.

“There are apparently some reservations about the way Bristol City and Charlton tailed off before Dean’s dismissal.

“I think these reservations are unfounded.

“At Bristol City, he was in charge of 43 games, 19 wins, five draws and 19 losses, a win ratio of 42 per cent.

“And just recently at Charlton, 32 games, 12 wins, five draws and 15 defeats, a win ratio of 37.5 per cent.

“Dean is regarded as an excellent man manager, who likes to play attacking football.
