And all of a sudden our point at Walsall looks like a very good point in the circumstances. Now just need to back it up with 3 tomorrow

Warning for anyone intending to buy their ticket at Newport. According to the latest info from City, it's cash only.

As Newport seem to be a few hundred years behind the times, the prices are:
    Adults 1,200 groats
    Over 60s 1,080 groats

Hughes has hit on a style of play that sees us within touching distance of the top three. Today was our first goal conceded in over 6 1/2 hours of football. It ain't pretty to watch and without Cook doing what Cook does we struggle for goals elsewhere but it was only a few weeks ago we looked like we might fall away from the playoffs. I don't think todays performance was any different to pretty much every other game in this good run of form. We don't create much but then its by design in how Hughes has us set up. The defensive unit very rarely if at all looks like conceding more than the odd goal. For me Hughes has to stick with what he knows works as its this pragmatic style that sees us challenging the autos.

Train on time into Newport and I'm now enjoying a couple of pre-match beers in the Tiny Rebel.

Very light drizzle at the moment.

    Nothing has changed.

This is the FA guidance on the subject
A goalkeeper can be sent off for a handball offence if he was deemed to deny a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity through the handball. If he is deemed to stop a promising attack, he will only be issued a yellow card.

If he is seen to deny a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO), he will be sent off. However, the goalkeeper may only stop a promising attack (SPA).

Since the goalkeeper is outside of this penalty area, he will be considered as an outfield player. In this scenario, he will only be awarded with a yellow card.

There is a fine line between stopping a promising attack (SPA) and denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO). The Laws of the Game has some criteria when differentiating between the 2:

    • distance between the offence and the goal
    • general direction of the play
    • likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
    • location and number of defenders
The goalkeeper will only be sent off if his offence is deemed to be severe enough.

Just seen the OG and if Lewis had not have stepped to his left a tad when their player kicked the ball he would have saved the ball for sure.

    Fine margins.

A question was asked earlier where would we be without Lewis and Cook-it's stupid one because we have them in the team and they are playing well-just what we want as fans to see. We should be thankful we have that sort of talent at our club not looking to see where we would be without them. I would also argue that Lewis and Cook are performing as they are because of the players around them not in spite of them.

We are actually in a really strong position right now as, has already been pointed out, teams above us are playing each other in the run in.

Buckle up peeps, the City rollercoaster has set off.

Thanks for this Rog. My thoughts exactly. Promotion via auto's is still very much on. I really don't give a toss how we get promoted but that we DO get promoted.

Just back from Newport. Can't say I am in a hurry to visit Rodney Parade any time soon.
Dismal town and despite being in the "covered" Bisley stand we were as exposed as those in the uncovered South Stand. The roof is nowhere near big enough for the size of the stand. Totally wet through.
As for our performance, not the best, not the worst. Honourable mentions for Cook, Walker, Clayton and Stubbs. East did well when he came on.
    Friendly stewards.

Thought it was a decent away performance today. Their goal was a fluke. It now makes the midweek draw a bad one.

Vital we get back to back wins now to keep us in the auto mix.

    The games are running out.

And that's the thing there is no consistency hence the League table stats.
Everyone can literally beat each other the quality of football is so poor.
It will inevitably go down to the wire.
On the subject of line markings did the referee do a proper pitch inspection.
I was stood on the back row of the Bisley stand and believe me the rugby lines were a disgrace.Their ground staff and match officials failed big time yesterday not the players.

The point at Walsall was never a bad one, it just wasn't the 'above and beyond' result many wanted.

This result for Crewe is a belter for us.

We've got to travel there later this month, and you can bet it won't be 4-3 Crewe lol

Sampling a Rhymney Brewery Ale (4.3%) now, in the Alexandra, £1.99 a pint. And just a short walk to the ground.

Still just a bit of drizzle.

Just need to take the 3 points home now.

Edit: And now a pint of Rhymney King's Ale (4.7%), also £1.99. I'm growing to like this place.
