With all their money Newcastle will take some turning around, as Sheikh Mansour found out at Manchester City, a season on season improvement will be great for the Geordies.

I take "Ashleys" balance sheet first approach if it made us into Newcastle as they are under his ownership ! Would take that all day against this garbage National League standard operation we have festered on us.

But our ambition isn’t to win the PL or Champions league.
I’d be happy to be operating at the top end of the Championship, maybe a yo-yo club like Norwich or Watford and with an owner like Ashley we’d definitely get that.

Did he actually ever invest any money into the club except for buying it in first place?

Yet their fans absolutely hated him and the lack of investment on the football side. He took more from Newcastle for himself and didn’t give a damn about the fans. The club is the 17th highest revenue producing club in the world in terms of annual revenue (according to Wiki) , yet never really came close to winning a trophy. Would you really want the same toxic atmosphere that we sampled under Rahic for 18 months, and that Newcastle have endured for 12+ years? What he made of Newcastle, was a solvent club that were happy to bob along and occasionally drop into the championship. A complete breakdown in the relationship between club and fans.

Sounds like Rupp also. We do F all hence we we get stuck with owners what are a waste of time for the City and club.

What’s the general thoughts on this? All the media seem hell bent on ramming down our necks it’s gonna ruin the game how a state can finance a team etc but it’s so far beyond that now anywya. Why does it matter?

you could probably make an argument for all owners of the top 4 clubs having some dodgy connections in the premier league and their morals are not always squeaky clean.

would you disown city if they took over us?

With the outrage about signing players, and players we have been linked to surely it would cause issues for a number of people.

Think out of all the owners they are the most suspect so far. Most recent judgement against them about hacking ex wife and her legal teams firm regarding a custody hearing and obviously the kidnapping and detainment of his own daughters and that is before you even touch the death of the journalist at the consulate in Turkey.

Isn't his balance sheet first approach similar to our current owner in that the club has to be self financing rather than the owner pumping cash in

We have had players who were alleged drug dealers, sex offenders and drive by shooters so why not owners? :)

It’s always the same when takeovers happen.
Lots of “faux” outrage by other teams supporters about dodgy dealings and suspect backgrounds of the new owners.
If you look deep enough virtually every football club owner will have some skeletons in the closet.
Look at the recent Pandora papers.
The headlines were pretty much “rich people and royalty do a few dodgy deals”
    No shit Sherlock.
But you can pretty much guarantee that it’s mostly based on jealousy.
I’m fairly sure the Newcastle fans will soon forget Saudi Arabia’s horrendous human rights issues and all the other horrible things they are suspected of doing when they start spending millions on players.
The UAE where Sheik mansour who owns Man City comes from have awful human rights issues as well but soon forgotten when the local community benefit from their significant charitable donations.
All the flak thrown at Newcastle still won’t dilute the amount of hate that some football fans have for Man City,PSG etc…… who have been seen to accept the vast amount of money that some countries with abysmal human rights have

Not saying it’s right or wrong but it’s the way of football unfortunately.

I don't know. Personally I think Newcastle have been the smuggest group of fans on the whole planet because they have absolutely no reason to be so which makes it worse. During the 90's they were a great set of fans but 2 seasons of relative success (despite not winning anything) seemed to feed into them thinking during the 2000's that they were Bayern Munich. They don't realise that Newcastle is pretty much the backend of beyond, it's hard enough to get players to come to the Manchester and Liverpool clubs as most players (or their families) want to be in London so attracting players requires a massive amount of overpaying. I remember Owen refused to move and choose to helicopter in and out of training each day. This is just going to make them worse because these Arab owners are corrupt and will find ways be able to pay people whatever they want to go there (Like how PSG gave Messi £30mill in the clubs own Cryptocurrecny which is now worth closer to $80mill but that's not considered as part of the club's accounts or how Neymar is getting tens of millions a year from the tourist board of Qatar which isn't counted in his wages. Or they will just do a City and both sponsor themselves at inflated rates or they will give 3rd party companies money to sponsor the club or buy things like image rights) so they will be able to act like they have a real legacy and justification for where they end up

If you were talking about United during the Moyes to Jose reign then you would have a point but under Ole and the other appointments made the identity is pretty much back to what it has always been

The fans were predisposed to hate him though. They hate both 'outsiders' and those they deem to be the world best. they saw him as both an outsider and a chancer, everything he tried to improve things at the club they turned on. The strange thing is they hated the stadium naming rights being sold claiming it killed their heritage BUT look how they are now celebrating the idea of the owners selling themselves the stadium naming rights.

Just look at the way they are with their managers, they start booing them from game 1. They even turned on Keegan pretty quickly in his second spell despite him previously being a hero to them. Or Pardew who got them up to 5th and not once did they stop looking for a chance to boo him. And the same with Sam Allardyce, he may not be a top-level coach but he would have most likely made them a solid top 10 club and gave them a decent base to build on. Mind you Shearer could have got them relegated to the National League North and they would still support him.

I personally get the feeling you lot aren't as delusional as Newcastle fans. If you were bottom half premier league most seasons you would be happy with that.

They seem to be largely ignoring it already. The thing that makes the Saudis the worst of them all is that how many have openly lured citizens who have been critical of the countries human rights record to the embassy and then kill them and then almost flaunted the fact because they did a pretty poor job covering it up

What because I said I feel that you lot would be happy with a bottom half of prem? How is that me being smug? It's saying that you lot are realistic about the status of your club not totally deluded like Newcastle fans who based one TWO seasons in 72 years think they are Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. They don't realise that no player wants to be based in the backend of nowhere unless you are able to bribe them with stupid wages. United and Liverpool do have problems persuading some top players to even join them despite the history of the clubs and Cheshire not being a fairly appealing area of the country to live because players and their families want to be in London if they come to England. Owen is a perfect example, he choose to charter a helicopter to fly back and forth to training rather than base himself up there.

They are ninth in terms of major trophies won. They've spent the seventh most number of seasons in the top division and are ninth in terms of top flight points.
