I hope that in and amongst our summer business, we sign someone who can take a free kick. I can't remember the last time we scored a direct free kick, and our set pieces last season were shocking.

Sounds a promising signing. It appears we have beaten a few clubs for his signature and presumably a fee paid too. Glad Bowyer is sorting out the defence. Think we need another centre back though, either Jake Wright or Paudie would be very welcome

 

I saw Donervon Daniels mentioned on TCA a while back, maybe him?

I'd be over the moon, JL and POC with fees paid for both would be a signal of trying to invest in talent the right way. Let's see I guess.

That's what I've heard, but time will tell....

If he's available for transfer, I think other league 1 and 2 clubs would be interested. Though most aren't in a position to pay fees. And we're local, which has to be an advantage...

 

I'd agree with that. I've long been asking for Rupp to supplement the wage budget with extra money for fees to be invested in young players that have proper talent and potential. Not just aimless punts like Patrick, Pybus, Clare etc.

If that's what we're doing, then hopefully we've turned a corner...

 

Looks like we are totally rebuilding the defence and possibly patching up the midfield and you would hope adding to the strikers - with or without Doyle.

 

Let's hope so mate. I don't know enough about JL or the football he's played but POC demonstrated he has all the right attributes to be a very good CH.

If POC does end up at VP I think it's solely to do with GB, it would be an impressive move.

 

Given where these lads are coming- Hornby( Port Vale reserves) Richards Everton (Accrington reserves), French (non league), Ismail Zeli (Walsall reserves) and now Longridge (Dunfermline) I seriously doubt we're breaking the bank to get them. On current evidence, the budget IS limited and in that regard Bowyer has done well to bring in 4 players who are highly rated and come with best wishes from their fans. The only concern at the moment is that most of it at this stage is just potential rather than anything of real substance.

Shrewd is how i would describe our summer recruitment so far. If we sign more players like Jackson Longridge, keep the Ismail Zeli's of this world to a minimum and add in a bit of experience in the right areas then I'll feel relatively optimistic.

Still a long,long way to go yet mind you.

 

No doubt they aren't costing the earth but even if the fee paid is 60k, it's a good contribution away from wage budget isn't it? As FB said, it's a sign we're not lumping our hopes on 10 random youngers, but on a player who has competitive experience. It's all very early and no doubt a gamble but I'd much prefer this sort of player to the over paid bunch we had last season.

 

I'll take 'shrewd'.
