They are it, or should I say IT! Ranked by points earned, with all converted to 3 points for a win: (all usual disclaimers apply!)
33: Trueman/Sellars (10-3-1)
31: McFarland (10-1-3)
27: Foster (int.) (8-3-3), Milburn (8-3-3)
26: O'Rourke (2nd spell) (8-2-4)
25: Todd (8-1-5), McCall (2nd spell) (6-7-1)
24: Barker (7-3-4), Mulhall (7-3-4)
23: Lawrence (7-2-5)
22: Wheeler (6-4-4), Dolan (6-4-4)
21: Harris (6-3-5)
20: McAnearney/Hallet (int.) (5-5-2), Kamara (6-2-6)
Note that McAnearney & Hallet did it in only 12 matches, as the season ended; Wheeler started the next one.
At the other end, two managers only won once in their first 14: Veitch (1-3-10) and Steele (1-4-9). Besides Veitch and an interim, two other managers lost 10 of their first 14: Robson (4-0-10) and Hopkin (2-2-10).
I think we can safely put this one to bed now. Hopefully it will be a while before we again start worrying about how the new manager(s) will do.

Here is the match report of that dreadful Hereford game with David Markham saying that McFarland is expected to be appointed next week

Good stats as ever RCB. Good point also about when the new manager starts.

T&S are still behind McFarland, but only just. Beat Walsall and they jump ahead, as McF lost match #13.
Points:
28: McFarland (9-1-2) -- corrected record
27: Trueman & Sellars (8-3-1)
26: Foster (interim) (8-2-2)
25: Milburn (8-1-3)
24: McCall (second spell) (6-6-0)
23: O'Rourke (second spell) (7-2-3); Barker (7-2-3); Mulhall (7-2-3)
20: Lawrence (6-2-4)
There were a few others close enough to 20 points that they might have joined the 20+ points crowd. However you look at it, T&S have done well, and I'm happy they've been made permanent. A few more wins and I too might start thinking that the playoffs are a possibility. Didn't Stuart say we could afford to lose 10 matches? GIven the general nature of the table this year, I think that number will be higher.
What a season this would/could be!

Matches where perhaps the 4/2/3/1 that T&S play would have yielded more points. His return of 13 from 16 was appalling, and had he managed to pick up just another 10 points and gain a respectable 23 from 16, we would be top right now.
Ifs/ Buts & Maybes, but an experienced manager like McCall, with the experience at his disposal (six of which started last night) should have been able to get the 1.44 points per match that the extra 10 would have yielded (not even playff form). Even if he had only managed to win the draws we would have six more points we would be in the playoffs and handily placed for a charge to the top.
Seems to me McCall had two big issues. First he couldn't (or wouldn't) bend on his stupid formation and second he had no clue about coaching "game management" into his teams.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -

I remember the Bradford End singing 'Roy McFarland must be mad'.
Of course, as has been mentioned, Roy McFarland produced an amazing, and quick, turnaround in fortunes, albeit with a summer to prepare.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Park bantam likes this. -

Now you've all made me think, and re-think! (Thanks especially to @Captain Grumpy and @wetherbywhaler.)
I've always had those last two matches of the 80/1 season down as McFarland's rather than "interim." I know he was in the building, so to speak, but should those two matches really be assigned to "interim"? I've so far been unable to find a source for exact date of appointment, only May 1981, but shall keep looking. I do know that Bantams Heritage does not have those matches as his. I should probably revise my file.
If we remove those two matches, a win and a loss, from his record, and just use the first 11 of 81/2, then his start is even better, at 9-1-1, for 28 points. His 12th match then was a loss, but even so, @JonButterfield, T&S even with a win tonight would still be behind McFarland.

Weren't we "experimenting" with Sunday games at the time ? I seem to recall Ces Podd didnt play in them because of his religious beliefs.
