RE the boar, jason mckeown explains it in his book. Forgot the title (something about the DNA of the club) but read a bit of it when at my parents house.

It was indeed a story relating to old huntsmen, who slayed this angry boar that used to terrify the locals. One of them dragged its head to the mayor or whoever, as a prize!

EDIT: the book is Who We Are (https://widthofapost.com/2018/10/28/who-we-are/amp/)

Didn’t know there was a deep valley between Ling Bob and the New Inn, unless you plan on going by catapult that is.

Loads of clubs have a "nod" to their heritage and coats of arms. Man City may not have the coat of arms, but they've got the ship representing the ship canal, three stripes representing the three rivers in the city, the Lancashire rose, and more recently a bee on their shirt - representing the industry of the city. Lots and lots have symbols of the city they play in - Northampton have a shoe, Luton Town have hats, Grimsby's badge reflects their maritime heritage. Maybe we should have that one someone designed with Lister Mills on it. Certainly one of the best and most imaginative mock designs I've ever seen.

And then you've got Swindon Town and Bournemouth. And Huddersfield (at least they have a Yorkshire rose on it).

Nothing wrong with our current badge, and I'm not advocating a change, I'm just saying I prefer the boars head because it's a bit more meaningful, and I'm swayed because the first shirt I got for Xmas had that on it.

As I said earlier it’s about preference and it was before my time, but to me it looks like a kids attempt at a dragon stuck on especially on claret and amber it just doesn’t look nice to me. The white shirts in the 80’s looked really nice though. The bantam is unique to us personally a wouldn’t want the Yorkshire Rose, funny enough with football as tribal as it is I usually cheer against any team against a Yorkshire team so don’t really want to be associated with them but that’s just me. We made fortunes off the canals north of the city and were known for wool, but I wouldn’t fancy a sheep or boat.

Only just! Which is ours and which is another team? Both motifs are from their respective clubs, in their earliest incarnation.

@Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander - I was watching the golf yesterday (The Jack Nicklaus trophy at his place in Dublin, Yankeeland) and thought “what the heck, is that really a West Ham badge” on the winner’s bag. Turns out Billy Herschel is a big Hammers fan, well I never! Also, what is it with Hammers players and diving header own goals just lately? (Sorry about hijacking the thread).

Sparks confirmed all 3 kits will carry Claret & Amber. Modern/traditional cited for the home so looks like stripes and black shorts.

I'll give you sheep for the wool, but the link to canals is tenuous given Bradford only ever had an open sewer of a canal cut rather than a full canal and the nearest the Leeds Liverpool got to the source of Victorian wealth (Manningham) was Shipley.

Huddersfield previously had a coat of arms with rams heads on it, as their badge. But that was to do with Baron Ramsden (also my surname but without the title!) owning the land. I suppose the boars head to me encapsulates my first shirt, which is why I like it. I wonder who designed it? The one Bradford Northern had, is the one that is on the coat of arms…not the “dragon”.

The Canals north of Bradford were vital to our wool trade and were a big part of Bradford’s wealth, it’s a bit more than a tedious link and far more important and relevant to the City than a pig being killed over the valley. Just because they weren’t in the city centre, neither is undercliffe where the pig was killed, it’s irrelevant.

No haha it looks like a child’s attempt at a dragon to me. It just doesn’t go with claret and amber which aren’t easy colours to match with. On white not as bad.
