    Welcome aboard Stephen.

Looks a decent appointment and it would seem we have taken our time and been patient in landing him.

Not much of a bedding in time for him as we approach a busy and important couple of months recruitment.

I like the fact that he is looking at it from a long term perspective and looking to attract younger players who can grow with the club and hopefully good enough to play at a higher level with us.

Hopefully it's the end of the journeyman player signing on at the last hour of a transfer window

Even if Wilder didn’t want him that doesn’t mean he is a bad appointment. We have taken our time to get the right fit. Always a bit of a gamble appointing staff, but if you do your homework less so.

Even Pep has a head of recruitment. Gone are the days of managers deciding who comes into the club.

I agree with most of that and want him to be successful at VP. As you say there is little point in making the appointment if the manager isn't backed financially but that will require investment from the owner. At the time when Rupp bought the club, I was equally optimistic. Why would somebody invest his own money to buy a lower league club without investing further to develop it into a higher league club? I thought it self evident that that's what Rupp would have to do to make money after buying the club. Unfortunately, as we all know, that hasn't happened yet. I hope that having a better recruitment and scouting set up will be the catalyst for more investment in the squad but I'm not holding my breath just yet.

The first test for the new guy (along with Hughes, Sparks and Rupp) will be how the squad looks after the summer rebuild.

Your caution is understandable given our past history, but I think this is more a case of Gent seeing this as an opportunity to advance his career rather than Wilder not being keen on him. His LinkedIn page shows he has been loans and scouting operations manager and head of scouting operations over the past 4 or so years. Middlesbrough brought in a new head of football last August, so I'm guessing he didn't think he'd get the opportunity to advance at Boro in the near future and has looked for opportunities elsewhere.

Agreed. I imagine discussions about the size of the budget will have been had during the interview process, and the fact Gent still signed on the dotted line knowing what funds he will have available gives me some optimism!

I agree it’s more akin to an assistant manager in the championship taking the main manager role in league 2 imo, not a step down just into a role with more leadership to progress your career. You can’t always do that at the company you’re at in any industry.

We didn't just jump in on this appointment and the recruitment area of our off field operations as shall we say been far from satisfactory.
If and I suspect Stephen Gent needed a new challenge after been at one club so long then he's certainly going to find working in the League Two player level market a demanding job,but he will already know that.
Bradford City now have a manager and assistant who I believe will take us forward.
This new appointment is pivotally important to bringing in player additions good enough to get us promoted not simply treading water.
We are coming to the end of another under performing season. Recruitments in general has been poor for some years.
Bradford City now have another chance to clear the decks once again.Gent is tasked with acquiring a team of players who will ultimately give us supporters the winning team we've craved and longed for in the stands home and away.
    Good luck to Stephen Gent.
Hope he hits the ground running in his new job.
Welcome to the Bradford City backroom staff City Gent.

It seemed to take a while to get everything in place. If Boro wanted rid I think it would have been announced sooner.

People need to understand you can only judge people in what they do when appointed. All that matters is how he performs here.

If it doesn’t work out then we get rid.

Agree. Ad lets be honest, none of us will know anything about this fella. Whats key, is whether he and Hughes are backed. Investing in scouting and data analytics to target players more effectively is something we've needed for a long while. Ultimately though it all comes down to money, and whether we're prepared to invest in targeting a better quality of player than we have been

Modern transfers are complicated and take time and patience and managers sometimes do not have the time and end up last minute and rushed, This guy should help in that area and hopefully get deals done we have missed out on in the past, Welcome Aboard the good ship BCFC Stephen

I wonder if the 3 scouts brought in during the Adams reign will be incorporated within his team. Seems to have a good mix of experience, all be it at the same club. Good luck and welcome onboard.

I get your point in one respect, but that doesn’t mean he’s not any good nor not going to be a success . If he’s surplus to Boro’s new philosophy then it may be turned into a huge benefit to us. Looking at his CV then he’s got bags of experience and a tad more professional than back of a fag packet scout?

    I am more than happy.

This new City Gent looks a great improvement on Lee(Scunthorpe) Turnbull who flitted from club to club on short term contracts.
It is interesting to note that he has a UEFA coaching licence.

Come on Trev, surely you know that sort of thing doesn't happen at City - all of our last minute signings have been players we've had our eye on for months! ;)
