He sounded shit scared to be honest...I worked for a FTSE 100 Bank for 30 years and if any Department Head, in charge of 50 people, had spoken like that I'd have been worried!!

Rather than a Q&A wouldn't it have been better to have come prepared with a 5 year plan ready to set out as part of the statement, this is my vision, this is my plan, I need you the supporters to get behind us, this is what you can do, this is what we are going to do.......that's what leaders normally do. A rallying call...

    Doesn't fill me with confidence.

It's the difference between telling the people you know that you're ready and telling the wider audience you're ready.

    Whatever.

It wasn't a great interview, he wasn't properly prepared, but that doesn't mean he can't ultimately exceed all expectations.

It just means his first step is to meet them.

At least he won't be stuck in his ways, and will hopefully listen to criticism, and adapt to it - but if he starts out all defensive and keeps rambling on about how he's ready, we'll know it's just another Collins.

As a senior manager for a large FTSE 100 bank, he is no where near the level of our Senior managers for public speaking let alone our head of departments or directors. Don’t get me started on how far away he is from our board members.

I’m only assuming here but the issue comes down to money and doing things on the cheap. Our heads of earn £100k+ and we have a very good benefits, bonus and shares package.

A competent CEO or even a competent commercial director from large companies earn serious money. There is no way City could afford to pay them the required amount.

He will get there but it’s going to be a tough learning curve for him. I’ll give him a chance but he needs to learn to swim pretty fast.

Thanks for posting this link. Ryan comes across well and now there is a vision for the future. As nothing can be done about the past , hopefully they have learnt from mistakes.

Very impressed with the probing questions from Jamie Raynor. His style is a breath of fresh air compared with previous local radio presenters.

He doesn't though as its clear the owner doesn't care about the club.

All this to me just seems like Rhodes, Sparks and McCall taking an opportunity of a owner that isn't fussed about whats happening. We only need to look at how Edin played him to understand this.

So Spark has really until the club is sold. Even if we went down Rupp would be yeah thats cool. Honestly Rupp is worse than Edin and people need to wake up to that fact.

I don't think the interview is half as bad as people are making out. Ryan started off a bit cagey, but after 5 mins or so he got into the swing of it and was much better after that. He came across quite well i though and im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a young man for such a senior role, and isn't going to be perfect, but i believe he understands that and he has his head firmly screwed on. He clearly knows the discontent on social media and understands the generation were in where everyone has a voice through a keyboard. Sounds to me like he's willing to listed and take on board what the fans think. Listening to that and to what Stuart said as well in his interview it feels like the club is pulling together with a common aim, which can only be a good thing. Ryan just needs to make sure he puts things in place to achieve that common goal. Will be interesting to see how the January transfer window goes, as Ryan put quite a lot of emphasis on that. Ill judge at the end of the window as to his capabilities to drive the club forward. A window like the previous one wouldn't look good on him. He needs to make a good impression or the fans will be calling for his head. For the time being i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but all in all after the 2 interviews i actually feel like the club is ready to move forward.

I work for a FTSE 100 company (i know so fekking what) and ive heard all sorts of speakers and live video chats from the guy earning 2 million down to directors and head of large business functions and Sparks stacks up more than ok IMO.

In my job I always at least try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt and believe just about anything is possible if you really want it.

    He needs our support now.

Reactive rather than pro active is my view on his interview he says he has known about the appointment indeed "run the club" for the last three months (hardly a glowing endorsement) and should have given an all guns blazing account of how he is going to progress the club "shout it from the rooftops" hopefully that will come
Not convinced either way about this appointment not looking good extending Stuart's contract but let's see what transpires

I equally don't understand this preoccuption with FTSE 100 companies. They are each worth many billions, many have turnovers expressed in the billions and profits in the hundreds of millions and beyond. Most operate in global markets. The quality of their executives reflects all of this as do the executive's packages.

It may come as a surprise to some but City doesn't come anywhere close to being a FTSE 100 company! Our turnover is £5-6mill, we only make a profit in the good years when we have an unexpected windfall, we operate in little more than a backwater and the value of our club is, well, next to zilch. And that also is reflected in the quality of the club's CEO.

I'd have preferred to have heard more from Sparks about the substance of his plans for the club and not just well articulated words. I hope we do hear something about his own vision and his plans for the club in the not too distant future. Unfortunately, having learned his trade, such as it is, at the feet of JR to date, I might be expecting too much!

Your bottom paragraph was the reason i wanted someone else from outside to get the job, preferebly with Sparks learning from this said person of coming at the role from a different angle. If you're learning from Rhodes your outlook will be somewhat pragmatic as opposed to speculating to accumulate.

I'm with you on that. When Sparks used the phrase 'sustainable' the other night, I thought, Oh no, that's the opening line on the JR playbook! I was pleasantly surprised that he never mentioned 'deficit' in the same sentence. That really would have nailed it for the club.

We'll have to see how the impact of the salary cap manifests itself. I was pleased that Sparks already seemed to have a good understanding of how that will change things on both the footballing side and the business side of the club dramatically. Hopefully we'll start to see the impact of that coming through in the way the club does business and whether it starts to use the benefit of the cap to invest in future talent and on the club's infrastructure.

We does he need our support. No he doesn't. The man is a opportunist! He knows Rupp isn't interested in the club and Rhodes is LAZY!

We're not a FTSE 100 company and what a small to medium business like Bradford City needed to move forward is not a 29 year unexperienced chancer.

I don't look at him and this he deserves to be there. I look at him and think anyone on here could be in that position because our owner isn't bothered.

In the Sparks interview it was sound bites without detail. Even Drury said we need an identity this is clear but what isn't is how do we create it. Which Sparks didn't explain.

Sparks was asked about training and training at the school which again was an opportunity to say I want Bradford to improve on this front but he defended training at a school and even dropped in he went there.

The hiring of Sparks just highlights that how much this club is a joke and I can't back the club at the minute. Its full of BS!

Arrh right. That might well explain how he knows the potential which a salary cap will have on the club in the new regime.

A lot of people have preconceived ideas as to who would have been an ‘ideal’ CEO. They often look at people who have already achieved success in the role. Some struggle to replicate their first success if they transfer organisations. Individuals who have been highly successful cannot sustain it, things change (Philip Green at Arcadia is a good example).

As far as I am concerned, Ryan will be judged on how he performs now. It is an interesting time to be appointed, both within the current Covid crisis and its impact on football and the position of the Club. Sometimes in such a situation, when things are slightly ‘out of kilter’ then opportunity which wouldn’t normally exist, arises and unexpected success can be realised.

Could the plan be with regards a new DOF Paul Jewell as has been mentioned if he or any other football man came into the club I would think they would want to be part of any football planning going forward, so I'm hoping no mention of future plans football wise have been made until all concerned have their input, that would be a step in the right direction for me.
Although he made great emphasis on youth development I think any money spent on players has to be on players that fit McCalls criteria both as a footballer and the sort of person who will run through a brick wall for his teammates, fan and club.
