ER talks in the Wycombe programme about the importance of gaining momentum going into a group of testing fixtures and fair enough, no one can disagree with that. But the problem is we're rapidly loosing momentum having yet to find first gear after a seemingly wasted pre-season and following a surprising opening day win at Shrews.

The importance of preparing well and getting off to a solid winning start in L1 cannot be underestimated, particularly with a new and unfamiliar group of players. It naturally builds confidence and belief to carry forward as the fixtures unfold. For instance look how Shrews capitalised on their fantastic start last season and how buoyed Peterborough must be this time around.

It might be early days after installing a totally inexperienced coaching team (at this level) and having undertaken a complete overhaul of personnel (much needed) but in all honesty, after almost six weeks together, the players still resemble complete strangers, seemingly devoid of any understanding of their roles and a total tactical mess.

Frankly this should not be happening with professional footballers who should surely know and understand the game and their expected roles within it. It certainly works well enough at different international levels. Players from all the various Club sides with differing playing philosophies coming together for brief time spells but quickly being able to absorb and successfully deliver a specific coaching ethos on the field of play.

From what we've seen so far much of the failing appears down to the poor preparation (particularly pre-season) and the seemingly confusing tactical messages of MC, et al. But also, I fear that we have possibly assembled a frail set of players where there is inexperience and lacking the level of character, leadership, drive and determination required to be successful at this level.

As a professional every player must take personal pride and responsibility in performing to the absolute maximum for the Club. But equally MC has to ensure that his team are properly equipped with a definite game plan and all the tools needed to do the job. This also involves, as necessary, MC balling his arse off on the touchline with reminders, tweaks and encouragement rather than standing there impassively as he appears to do. There's no doubt MC's inexperience is showing and he is struggling to deliver his side of the equation effectively but also the players are failing in their task to implement any recognisable game plan.

So what's the point in delaying, certainly Scunny have wasted no time in appointing Stuart today. Nothings going to change in the next two games. ER simply needs to admit he has made a huge mistake and relieve MC, et al from their duties before we find ourselves even further in the mire.We need proper management and with a couple of vital loan additions i.e. midfield leadership and a recognised target man, we might just be able to regroup and begin to build ourselves some momentum.

In the immediate term we can make some very do-able but profound changes:
Sign a forward, midfielder and left back on loan.
Bring in a manager and give him control of first team affairs.
    Recruit a fitness coach.
Have Rahic take a back seat.

It won't take us where we need long term but it'd be a step forward and give us some stability on the pitch

I really think this week could be pivotal in terms of how the rest of the season pans out. Make the changes you suggest and we should be okay, do nothing and it doesn't bear thinking about.

Agree. I wanted saturday to be a step on from Burton but in all honesty we played better against Sheff Utd pre season.
Like you said MC needed to be absolutely bollocking the team for the shite they were producing, instead he just stood there impassively.
We are now on a 41 game season with 123 points still to play for.
What happens this week will ultimately determine how many of those we end up with.

And a right back Riley gets beat too easy and seems he is the preferred RB over Mellor

Reily, Seedorf, Coalville & even Miller for that matter doesn't have that much first team experience.

We have plenty of experience to help the younger ones. In fact Colville and Gibson actually showed the experience professionals the way when they came on

Mellor was in the PFA league two team of the season 16/17. Ok it's a league lower but it means he can play.

Under a proper manager he'd be fine.

They all do. Almost as if we don't have a fitness coach and they've not had many pre season minutes isn't it?

    Great planning Edin.

And he's not the only one!

It's reminiscent of the start of last season. And again we don't have the depth of quality in the squad to deal with minor niggles, tweaks etc which can turn so easily into longer term problems.

Maybe they'll approach one of the management targets they had whose circumstances may have changed.

Fitness was a problem last season as well it seems to have a low priority. I was told the other night that the German fitness coach only came in for a month as a favour to Edin. Apparently there is another on the horizon but we need to do better . Allamby was a major part of Parky’s management team we need somebody of his calibre now to get it right

We really are missing an Allenby type. His skill wasn't just about improving the squad's fitness but also about preparation and conditioning. I don't recall the type of minor niggles and tweaks leading to more serious long term injuries as we suffered last season in Allenby's time when he was involved under the PP regime.

Its like we’ve been discussing, taking money from parts of the club to fund others means less depth of squad and a low quality of backroom staff and it shows. Honestly i cant believe people can’t see the ensuing problems facing us.

Funnily enough all the issue you identify as lacking we have been promised had been addressed. Frail players - we are told that character traits are studied before we sign them. Poor preparation - no we were told we were ready with all preparations completed as the season started. Even now MC performing another u-turn on transfers. He was happy with the squad not so long ago and now he's planning extensive loan acquisitions. Let's face it he's saying all the things he's heard other managers saying but he hasn't a clue what they mean in reality. No-ones ready to climb down from this just yet so we're stuck with a continuation of the blindingly obvious for the foreseeable future at least.

It's there for all to see.

Just like last season, our first team squad lacked depth to deal with injuries, loss of form etc; had no back-up in a couple of key areas and we are still robbing Peter to pay Paul. Somebody on here last week identified that our Reserve/Development squad (which I assume is where the development squad get their game time) was to have been playing in the Central League for the current season according to the club's website. And yet we don't feature anywhere in those Central League's fixtures!

We seem to be struggling on so many fronts at the moment and eventually some of the plates which Rahic is juggling will hit the deck.
