The proof of the pudding as ever, will be if what Hughes has been promised in terms of backing actually happens. My own feeling is that if it doesn't, Hughes will just walk.

I hope he is backed. But under Adams, his tenure was, or so it seemed, was done on budgetary constraints or as some stated, sustainability... I'm not sure how true this is, for the record.

If I recall correctly, 7 out of the 10 players whom came in last summer came from teams whom finished below us in the footballing pyramid. That's not the message I want to see, especially on the back of very good season ticket sales coupled with price increases across the board.

I'm not trying to write the future but history, under Rupp, has characteristics and evidence.

I'll leave my scribblings here but my scooby senses.....

Did Rupp bring him in? There was me thinking it was Sparks, Sparks also said we didn’t go over our budget bringing him in so as Rupp no longer puts money in then it’s Sparks and the fans through funding it who brought Mark Hughes in. Give yourselves a big pat on the back everyone.

Mid table finish. Shambolic recruitment. Again.

Nope... No one saw that coming, no one at all.

Budget... Top 5.. :joy::joy: taking the piss.

If our budget really is that high it's a bleak indictment of all at VP. Everyone could see the club was severely lacking off the field.

I guess the club tried to address the lack of expertise by appointing Turnbull, but it didn't work out.

We just have to hope the slow progress the club seems to be making off the pitch pays off next season.

When will the new Head of Recruitment be announced BTW?

Pretty crucial piece of the puzzle, that one.

Seems to have gone quiet that one, however we are coming to an end of a dead season so I’m happy to give the club some time to get the right appointment. Whether they will however is open to debate and we could do with players been identified already as we know what league we will be in. That’s one area mid table teams should always have an advantage going into the following season, they’ve had longer to prepare and know the level they will be at. Absolutely no excuses not to get everything off and on the field right this time, they’ve had 4 or 5 chances and eventually patience will wear out.

    Yep, this is the one.

This Summer could potentially be very exciting.

Hughes will have his links, will be as good as any coach in the division at convincing good clubs to lend us good youngsters (they're going to learn so much under Hughes as opposed to Adams, say), and there's bound to be some very good players in the National League who are frustrated they aren't playing EFL football next season given only two of the teams can get promoted.

If we get someone in place within the next month of two who can make that position their own, we've every chance of being able to assemble a very good squad.

I know we'll still need some cheapies given the budget, but this is a pivotal time in the history of this club IMHO. Get it right, we can turn the corner at last. Get it wrong, or fail to make the necessary improvements, and, well, we'll let one of the 'most momentous moments in the history of the club' go to waste, to quote Sparks.

Totally get what you're saying Bantam Dave, but I think the real difference is...what you're going to promise Adams in terms of budget will be alot different to what Hughes will want and demand. To me, this is great because if true, we've gone from Rupp hoping we can get promotion on the cheap with an Adams, but perhaps now realising you gotta think big to go big if you have a footballing legend at the helm. If next season we don't have the largest budget in League 2, Rupp isn't reading the room and yes, he should go.

This season was long dead before Hughes walked into the job. Those back to back wins have ensured our survival for another season and that’s all you need to know on this diabolical shit show the club has served us up.

The proof will be in the pudding this summer and we will see how serious that Rupp is about righting the wrongs and correcting his and Sparks now many mistakes.
I don’t want big name signings but it will be clear come the end of august how serious we are in the squad depth and also if their are many back room changes. We need qualify in every position and no scrabbling about on deadline day for yoru Robinsons of this world.

Totally agree we also don’t need an immense squad of mediocrity, leaching the available funds. Due diligence on players health/fitness needs focussing on, no point having a player who is only available for half or less of the season, no matter how good they could be. Personality and behaviour should also be factored in. We don’t need moody characters or those who have a history (perhaps not public but known to the clubs) of living on the edge of the law.

It maybe a top 5 budget but wasted on a load of crap we have brought in 6 strikers and only one of them gets goals :(
Surly better recruiting would have brought us in 3 strikers who can find the net next season
