This season was long dead before Hughes walked into the job. Those back to back wins have ensured our survival for another season and that’s all you need to know on this diabolical shit show the club has served us up.

The proof will be in the pudding this summer and we will see how serious that Rupp is about righting the wrongs and correcting his and Sparks now many mistakes.
I don’t want big name signings but it will be clear come the end of august how serious we are in the squad depth and also if their are many back room changes. We need qualify in every position and no scrabbling about on deadline day for yoru Robinsons of this world.

Next season is shit or bust for Rupp and Sparks, this season was but the pulled a rabbit out of the hat by getting Sparky of that doesn’t work then even the most positive fan must wonder where we go from here. Hopefully it all works out. I don’t believe in Rupp or Sparks, but I’m happy to but my faith in someone with the pedigree of Sparky and we’ve already seen some improvement on the pitch since he came in. Now he needs backing with off and on field resources, it’s an interesting and exciting summer ahead imo but it going belly up doesn’t bare thinking about.

whatever happens from now on it’s can only get better ........... we have a manager who knows what he’s doing ......... the majority of this lot who have been poor all season will be replaced by better players ( you seriously think Hughes will settle for the last two sham transfer windows ????) ............. the season ticket sales will hold up going into next season ......... a lot more positives than negatives going forward

This is the rather damning indictment of the current regime unfortunately.

2017/18 a lot on here knew the squad wasn't good enough for promotion, some even feared a relegation battle, and thus we ended up going down without a fight. Since then numerous squads have been put together that the general consensus of this board felt was nowhere near the required quality to get out of this league and they have been proven right.

Despite all the bullshit and bluster from the club saying otherwise, it's the fans that have been proven correct time and again.

The lack of football knowledge within in the club, is the one major issue that needs addressing before this club will go anywhere

We all recognise Hughes has great experience in the game, has previously managed at a high level and must already know some of the areas where we have to improve if he is to get our team promoted. He interviews well, is very reassuring and has instilled some pride and endeavour into the squad. However, the difference between PV yesterday and our own squad shows how much has to change and improve on the playing front. Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether Hughes' own personal knowledge of lower league footballers will be sufficient to build a squad capable of being promoted next season. Much will depend on Hodges I guess, who I suspect has better knowledge of lower league footballers and better contacts with lower league clubs than Hughes. Of course there is still the unspoken issue of the next recruitment manager and who might fill the role. Little has been said about this recently but it would be good to get somebody in sooner than later to work with Hughes and Hodges.

Fortunately for Rupp & Sparks, the appointment of Hughes will undoubtedly have swayed some of the wavering fans to purchase another ST. His appointment couldn't have come at a better time. The money to rebuild the squad should therefore be available but it's yet to be seen whether it can be spent wisely during the summer.

We could end up around 18th, the same position we firstly finished under Parky. That would not be to the detriment of Hughes but needs to be highlighted that this is under the tenure of Rupp and Sparks. I've invested good money and valuable time to watch this shitshow of a season, a couple of decent performances from Hughes doesn't detract from how badly this club has been run.
Let's see if Hughes does get backed next season.

Totally disagree. 3 defeats in 3 home games suggests Hughes is not getting much more of a tune out of this squad than Adams was.

Granted, its a bit more pleasing on the eye, and the players seem to have taken to Hughes more. However, that doesn't alter the fact the squad is nowhere near top 7 level.

So true. We have many square pegs in round holes, an over-abundance of midfield players who all offer pretty much the same, and a lack of players who can join/link up and play together/off one another. And of course our problems upfront continue to be glaringly evident. Bless his heart and his endeavour, Andy Cook continues to work like a dog. But there's no-one good for him to regularly play with or off. I feel for the bloke.

I agree. However, by some miracle a fairy godmother retrieved Mark Hughes genuine interest from the junk mail and decided to give us a break. My warning goes direct to Rupp, this is your chance to shine. This manager you have appointed knows exactly what is needed please do not penny punch anymore. You have to invest to makes sure you get your money back. If MH shouts jump, you say how high, it is as simple as that.
We have spent 3 years in this lowly division trying to do it on the cheap, but as you have seen it can’t be done unless you believe Lady Luck is going to put in an appearance again? Not only does the squad need a complete overall the back room staff including the medical staff need an upgrade. We have a poor fitness and injury history. We can’t have 1/2 the squad being treated at anyone time.

Now is the time trust the management team you have appointed this is it. I don’t know whether we will make this in one leap but we have to see improvement as even at this level several teams can out compete us which is ridiculous for the amount of fans who come through the door. It’s time…….

Jamie Raynor made me laugh post match yesterday when he said the current squad is definitely top 7 material.

From someone who has watched all our games, that is a baffling assessment of our squad.

Another good example of the need to move away from mediocrity, even as fans, is how we assess pur own players. Take someone like Matty Foulds. Hes honest, he's young and he's local. He's probably got a role to play as a backup. But compare him to someone like Mal Benning and its night and day. Thats exactly the sort of level we need to aim for.

Our lingering in this league and not able to even must a top half finish is a humiliation. No more pissing about. Do whats necessary and build a quality squad for Hughes to work with.

We've known for some time this squad is nowhere near good enough to challenge for automatic promotion which is where we have to be heading next season. Hughes hopefully the one to deliver some home truths to the ownership and CEO about how poor our recruitment has been for the last few years.

Agree with all of your astute points. An amusing sidelight, don't know whether you've read any of Adams comments after Morecambe's two recent heavy defeats - basically boiled down, if we hadn't conceded the goals and scored a few of our chances they would both have been very different results. His delusional behavior continues.

This obsession with Rupp being at fault for everything has to stop. He's brought in a quality manager, maybe by luck rather than judgement, but at least he's done it. Let's give Hughes the chance to turn it around and then see if Rupp still needs castigating.

He will have been fully appraised before taking the job, if he wasn't going to be backed he would have withdrawn his application because he has no need to work. Give Hughes time to mould his own squad before carrying on the Rupp Out nonsense. What's done is done. Let's move forward.

If our budget really is that high it's a bleak indictment of all at VP. Everyone could see the club was severely lacking off the field.

I guess the club tried to address the lack of expertise by appointing Turnbull, but it didn't work out.

We just have to hope the slow progress the club seems to be making off the pitch pays off next season.

When will the new Head of Recruitment be announced BTW?

Pretty crucial piece of the puzzle, that one.

    Yep, this is the one.

This Summer could potentially be very exciting.

Hughes will have his links, will be as good as any coach in the division at convincing good clubs to lend us good youngsters (they're going to learn so much under Hughes as opposed to Adams, say), and there's bound to be some very good players in the National League who are frustrated they aren't playing EFL football next season given only two of the teams can get promoted.

If we get someone in place within the next month of two who can make that position their own, we've every chance of being able to assemble a very good squad.

I know we'll still need some cheapies given the budget, but this is a pivotal time in the history of this club IMHO. Get it right, we can turn the corner at last. Get it wrong, or fail to make the necessary improvements, and, well, we'll let one of the 'most momentous moments in the history of the club' go to waste, to quote Sparks.
