McCall IN/OUT (with new Poll)

I'm not sure if you're trying to be facetious over the way I said something. Either way, the club hasn't handled the problem.

 

You said the club had no idea it was lacking firepower. I was just making the point that this is incorrect given they’ve publicly stated they’ve tried to sign 5 strikers.

 

hes still probably the best player at the club haha, in all seriousness he played in the PL himself and had a good international career with Scotland (they still come up against world class opposition in internationals) so has good credentials for me. i think having one or two guys he feels he can work with going and doing some scouting for him would help a lot. doesn't need to be world class mega analytics but a couple of extra pairs of trusted eyes going and watching full games, not just agents who have a vested interest in getting players contracts.

stus brought some good players into the club in the past but he can't do it all on his own. was the same with bowyer boring football or not. i think it would be a stretch to say our recruitment has been a success in the past few years.. nobody gets it right all the the time but our hit rate is way off

 

I fundamentally dislike threads like this after such a short period of time and only leads to instability at a time when the club really needs to stand together. Stuart cannot be judged from when he took over last season. The squad was a shower of shite. No matter what I think of Stuart, nobody could have turned it around last season. The mentality of last season was deeply engrained from bowyer, and that wasn’t going to disappear once bowyer had left. Stuart needs to be judged on this season alone. He has the rest of the transfer window to sort the squad out for the remaining 40 odd games that will be left. I liked his interview the other night. Some good questions were asked and he answered them honestly whilst trying not to criticise his current squad and damage morale. It will have already taken a hit from that performance. The last thing it needs is Stuart berating the players staring they’re not good enough. Fair enough, this transfer window hasn’t been good enough to date, but it’s not over and we have time to bring the players in we need. Stuart has acknowledged the need for reinforcements so he is fully aware of the squad failures. It would be a worry if he thought we were ok with what we have, but he hasn’t said that. In all fairness to him, the last 4 games we have played 2 teams from a higher division, and 2 teams tipped to be at the top end of league 2, where we aspire to be this season. We have had 2 draws, a win and a defeat. I don’t believe that’s a bad return considering the amount of time we have been out for, and the opposition we have played. The next 3 to 4 games will give us a better indication of where we’re at.

Of course it hurts and is embarrassing to get beat 5 nil on your own turf, but if that result has made Stuart rethink where we need to strengthen, it might actually turn out to be a blessing. Many on here have been saying we need to bring in a CD but that position doesn't appear to have been on Stuart's radar. If Tuesday night has changed his mind, that's a positive imo. It remains to be seen who we bring in of course, but with him now saying it could be up to 4 new players where previously he's been talking about 1 or 2, that gives me some hope that we will strengthen in a couple of other areas as well as a striker and RB.

The team at the moment has no spine it needs a competent experienced centre half a forward with some pace and it needs a leader on the pitch. Unfortunately I don't expect him to bring any of these types in? if he was in a position to do this I am sure he would of done by now unfortunately he may have to ride out this season with what he's got.

As I said in my post, it remains to be seen who comes in but the fact that McCall is now taking about possibly 4 new faces in suggests Tuesday night was a bit of a wake up call for him and imo, that can only be a good thing.

You're right. And those are the signings you prioritise, you identify and sign early, if you're a properly run outfit.

 

Any one of those transforms this team, all three would get you promoted.

 

You are making a wild assumption that all teams sign all of their priority/intended targets early. As almost all don't then all those clubs are not properly run outfits by your reckoning.

 

What's the point of this?

BL is absolutely right. The club know they haven't signed a striker, and they know they need one.

Are you making a point beyond that simple fact that we all know?

 

I'm clearly missing something here. Is McCall funding any potential signings? I ask because he can talk to players / agents and sell them his vision all he wants but if the board is only sanctioning piss poor wages we have no chance of getting bodies in. Just getting a bit pissed with people assuming that it is McCall to blame for the apparent lack of signings.
