Glad Stuart is back. Hopefully he can get something out of these players.
With Stuart We had the basis of a good team, minutes away from the championship. Season away unbeaten. Season at home unbeaten. Can’t be that bad a manager to achieve that. Some may disagree.

Every team has a blip, he got sacked for a poor run of games, unfairly in my opinion. Then look what happened, we had Mr Sulk and Mr championship manager that went well!!!!

 

I bet there's plenty more you can't do with as well. Come on get it all out.

I was thinking the same: I thought Billy Clarke was Irish.

 

Just going back and looking at Stuart's record and tactics from the 16/17 season.

He played 4-4-2 for most of the campaign. Then towards the end he decided to go 3-5-2 against Sheffield in April (lost 3-0) and then he went 3-5-2 against Millwall in the final. He only went 5 at the back once against Millwall. And when we faced the better teams in the league, he went for a 4-3-3 attacking formation rather than be defensive.

I just worry how quickly the team can bounce back from having to play Bowyers ultra defensive negative football, to suddenly being pushed to attack for fun.

 

Well one things for sure, Akpan is going to have to swap his comfy slippers for football boots now that McCall is in charge.

 

So has anything been said about Drury? Gone then?

 

Bronco said he had but I can’t find anything to confirm.

 

Hopefully they will get the hang of it super quick. It must feel better to be in a team trying to be on the front foot surely?

 

He's here until next season at least, so might bring in a few free's. Loan market still open until Friday I think.

 

Some wanted him gone last time but they need to get over it. He's here now and been handed a contract until the end of next season. Whether you think the team's demise the last time he was here was due to Stuart's shortcomings, or due to a lack of support from the board, who expected him to better his results, while trimming his budget in that second season, and giving him no support in the transfer window, doesn't really matter now.

He's brought in his own assistant and we will at least try and play football now. Away games are not a guaranteed write off as they were under Bowyer. Let's get behind him - if we win the next three, which is very achievable, we'll garner some real momentum.

Remember, Novak scored 13 goals in League One for Scunny the other year. He might not be as high profile as Vaughan but he can be a good target man for us in L2.

I’d like to put Akpan in a room with Kenny Black and watch Kenny beat the living sh1t out of him.

 

McCall knows how to get the best out of players. NKP and Vincelot should have been a nightmare CB pairing but served us brilliantly at the back. Reeves was a class above playing under McCall but now looks conference level, Wyke was prolific for us but hasn’t done much since, Marshall was a transformed player etc etc. I think we have a number of players in this squad, Mainly Cooke and Devitt, who will benefit under his leadership and the type of football he tries to implement. McCalls biggest test is going to come when we go on an inventive bad run of form and have to grind out results but for the time being I’m satisfied happy with this appointment. It’ll be nice to see us take games to the opposition for once.
