Seems a bit crazy to me seeing as the Injury record of the two possible replacements is woeful which would then mean having to play someone else out of position. Only positive thing is Harrogate aren’t really a threat to you so it’s not as crazy as sending a player to Barrow

At times he was our most creative outlet via some very good crosses and has a couple of assists to his name. Was our most consistent player a few months ago but his form has dropped of late. Looks like Hughes wants a different type of fullback and as fans we must trust this judgement for now.

I think Matty has reacted badly to City’s latest loan signing so Hughes has just shipped him out.

Pray tell. However there is an old saying , if one can’t stand the heat…….. Competition must be advantageous, if it isn’t then best move on.

getting rid of Foulds feels like last season when we suddenly sold Canavan to Barrow

That's three players from City, they've already got Rory and Antony O'Connor.

From what i’ve heard, Bola is a very good LB. And if fit, is a massive upgrade on Foulds. Obviously, there’s a sticking point, that being his injury record. If bola gets injured an is out for 2-3 months, I don’t trust Ridehalgh to stay injury free for the time he has to provide cover

There's no way in this world that Foulds is better than Ridehalgh.

We've been fooled into thinking Foulds is a great LB because he had the very hard working Wright protecting him.

I'd think the decision is a brilliant one.

Foulds gets game time at a club of his ability and hopefully comes back wiser.

Meanwhile we keep the two better fullbacks, for the season objective; promotion.

It has since Wright was moved when we went to diamond.

Everyone keeps blaming midfield but they have been isolated as we have a LB who isn't naturally comfortable playing as a wing back - an essential role for this system. Ridehalgh or Bola will be far better suited, with the latter apparently comfortable at LWB.

Add the fiesty Walker, instead of the weak minded Chapman and that middle area suddenly has more snap.

The problem is he has 15 games in League 1 and 2 in the Championship under his belt so it's hard to know precisely how good he is. Most of his first-team football actually comes in the Pizza Cup and with how little clubs care for this, especially in the group stages it's not hard to look good. Coupled with his injury record (And Citys record in recent years of of keeping players with a slight question mark over their fitness, fit is hardly the best) relying on him and a 32-year-old who hasn't played since the start of September and who since the end of last season seems to have had groin, Ankle and Calf injuries which when you are picking up those kinds of related issues is often a worry that there is a bigger issue that's going to keep causing the player to have a niggle

If we’re going down the diamond route for the rest of the season, then we need our full backs to be on point. if we were playing 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, Foulds would probably keep his spot. But with a diamond, the emphasis for creativity primarily lies on the full backs, Halliday has improved in that regard recently, Although I always get the feeling there is an error in him defensively, Foulds has been poor for a month or so an doesn’t suit the formation.

Makes sense to me. In reading the article, I took it as Foulds either didn't back himself to compete or offer what Hughes wants from his full backs in the diamond, and saw the offer of continuing to play every minute (it looks like hes the only LB on harrogates books) and would rather play every minute, than sit in the stands. Dont blame him. We've got 2 LBs now, if need be Kelly and Critchlow are left sided defenders if all goes terribly wrong.

As said before by someone, i also think Foulds is about at his ceiling. He turns 25 in 2 weeks, so he's at that point where he isn't a project anymore, he needs to be a packaged full back to offer something going forward and back as the full back role is now key for most sides.

So my eyes haven't deceived me this season. Foulds has put over 3 crosses a game with around 40% accuracy. He's not the sort of full back who has the pace to beat a player but he does possess a very good left peg with an ability to wrap his foot around the ball.

Everyone improves as they get more experienced. Frankly, he was the one big weak link of the side. Fans seem to forget that he performed well, only when he had Wright playing in front of him.

The diamond needs a more savvy full back. Unfortunately, they have to be good at full back, wing back and midfield.

If he has a good spell at Harrogate, it makes him more 'saleable' - although the reality is that he's probably leaving for free next January.
