Is it just me who thinks Wood isn't all that?

He's decent, yes. And he's been one of our better performers over the last 18 months. But he's no wonderkid and I don't think he'll reach comparable levels to say Meredith.

He's just a decent lower league full back.

We are signing a few Bradford born players too. I like that idea.

Just had a look at the lads playing record, which is pretty non existant. Half a dozen first team games at 22 years old ,between Bury , Everton and Como. I hope he is not woods replacement but longridge's.
It also highlights the total waste of time these under 23 academy squads are. Lots of young players, who could be gaining valuable experience in the lower divisions, wasting their time at premier league clubs.

Scout I know has just text to say he is watching Stevenage v Tranmere today (not relevant) but message said 'know there has been a lot of activity already at your club but soundbites are we're putting extra effort and focus into the striker role'. Finger crossed

I used to live in Thornton and the barber there is a massive City fan. Few years ago he used to rave about Matty Foulds - said he was a local lad with a bright future. He was impressing at Bury at the time. With that in mind, I wasn't surprised to see him move to Everton.

Perfectly understandable how his opportunities were limited at Everton and although Como seemed a bizarre choice, he’s a fascinating signing for us. Good luck to him.

You really think they are going to let a nailed on starter leave and replace him with a guy who struggled to get minutes in serie c which is significantly worse quality than League 2 despite technically being a tier higher?

Unless someone paying a decent amount for Wood it would seem crazy. Suppose Longridge could step up but no manager seems to fancy him so I would think he is more likely to depart surely

    Staunton out until March,
Wood contract up in the air,
    Longridge absolutely shite.

    Makes perfect sense to me.

He can play centre back also.

We don't need better than Wood but sometimes Wood might need a rest and it was clear that we didn't have anyone to step up to take over.

This signing is just a lets have a look at you signing.

I think this could signal Wood is departing.

Obvious that immediate reactions go to the concern of Wood leaving, which might be true. However in relation to this signing, it very much feels more a back up than a starter - or else you’d hope it is.

I’m happy us signing a local lad and one with premier league youth experience, however to come in as a starter with very little experience doesn’t sound like the practical approach Trueman and Sellars have shown so far.

Here’s hoping an announcement of a new contract for Wood in the near future and Longridge moving on for his own sake.

I like it that T&S have had Foulds in the club for the past 10 days and the announcement of him with us until the end of the season is based on what they have seen - if it goes well for both club and player he is def the right age to have a longer future with us

Meredith was quicker than Wood, had a much better engine and was a stronger tackler. But @Briggus@Briggus is correct - Wood has a much sweeter left foot for crosses and free kicks, whereas Mezza couldn't cross for toffees.
Both of them are painfully and ridiculously one footed, which drives me to distraction in professional footballers, meaning they both pass backwards far too often in order to avoid using their right foot. But Mezza had the big advantage of having Law and Cullen (both exceptional at pass and move) close to him a lot of the time so he usually had plenty of short pass options immediately available, which helped to cover up his passing inadequacies. Wood hasn't had that luxury.

Meredith had a great partnership with Reid down the left

I hope its Longridge instead of Wood, but if they were moving wood on you'd think they'd want to get someone secured for longer than the end of the season?

The lad has been in for a week's trial before signing. I might be reading too much into it but it suggests to me there has been an offer for Wood and the club have been considering it. The fact they haven't got a contract extension sorted out yet points to Wood potentially leaving for nothing in the summer and they might be thinking it's better to get something for him now if they can get a suitable replacement in. Maybe they have their sights on another player to join in the summer and they see Foulds as a stop gap until then and if he does well, he can be given an extension as back up to whoever the potential target is in the summer. All hyperthetical and I hope I'm completely wide of the mark and there will soon be a tweet from the club confirming it is Mr Longridge that is on his way out of the door.

Most overrated city left back ever amongst the fans was Luke O’Brien. His career after city said it all

Much as it grates I'm in agreement with @Fordy117@Fordy117
With the exception of 1 or 2 most of this team have, up until very recently, shown very little to suggest keeping them past this window never mind the summer.
It wasn't very long ago a lot of folk on here were talking about having a good clear out in the summer and rebuilding. A couple of good results seem to have elevated some of the team in to players we must keep hold of.
Woods has been okay at times, occasionally good but I'd be more disappointed to lose someone like Staunton (who I think could become a real talent in a couple of years) than say goodbye to an above average player in what's been a pretty poor team.
