No big loss imo. Club can not be making any cash from it.

And there's nothing that can't be found online or through city's app for free.

 

Very poor decision, to my mind.

Whether they cover sporting events, or plays, or concerts, programmes are a lasting reminder of a time and a place and an event, even more so if you're the type to make notes in them. When done right they can be very informative as well as entertaining; even when done poorly they'll still cover the basics. They can also be very useful for historical purposes, e.g. in the match line-ups and details for previous matches that most match-day programmes include. When other sources fail, sometimes an old programme ends up becoming just the thing you needed.

The club should see programmes as a necessary part of the business, as just one of the many elements that make up the match and match-day experience, and consider the costs as part of the running costs of the club; they should not be seen as something that must make a profit on its own or be discarded.

The way forward could be what Wilsden has suggested - an end of season book. Remember the one given away free with the T&A at the end of our first season in the Premier league? That was excellent and I still have a flick through it every couple of years. It had a match report for every game including line ups and who was on the bench, loads of pics and showed our position in the table throughout the season. There's probably a few seasons that are best forgotten, but if the club, possibly in conjunction with the T&A, produced something like that again, I'd happily buy it, never mind get it for free.

 

Folks tightening their belts, digital taking over the printed word, businesses trying to be more environmentally sustainable....

Was only a matter of time.

 

More than 60% of last seasons programmes were just filled with advertisements for local businesses.

Was like reading one of those local neighbourhood booklets you find down the cafe.

 

.......but can you remember who the hell that No.16 is at 72mins in?!!!!
Anyway, the way things are with all these new signings, we won't even know who the hell our players are, never mind the opposition!

That's just a small part of the programme though? The rest is oppo background, previous encounters, managers blog, owners blog, ceo blog etc etc and other locally related articles-mascots etc.

 

Right decision if it’s losing the club money and not contributing to the club, everything in them can be found online at the click of a button.

An end of season book maybe worth exploring of good quality with all profits going to the burns unit, other than that I see little point. I still get a programme if I go to a major sporting event, but for us against Harrogate it’s not really something that interests a lot of people, hence why it makes a loss.

 

How many are actually gonna buy them though ????

Same! I was watching the video of them training in Spain, and couldn't recognise but a few players. All got the same haircut haven't they?! Thank goodness AK is not doing commentary anymore

I used to regularly buy a programme until about 15 years ago and since then I just bought the first of the season and the last of the season. With so much content online now the football programme is probably past its best. I remember in the past you had to get a programme to translate the half time scores on our old manual scoreboard but now you get up to the minute score changes and scorers online.
I wonder if it might be an idea to just publish a last match of season programme to review the season and give the clubs hopes for the next season, maybe the profits to the burns unit,

 

Just need a printed that morning team sheet as a give away at the turnstiles...

 

Yes I understand that, as you say online , downloadable, but the effort to put it all together may not be cost effective?
I collected them as a young un, and for special games. Still got Wembley’s etc, Norwich away in cup and disaster day all bring back memories, but let’s face it , other than commemorating a key game they aren’t really necessary?

I had something similar in mind, I didn’t get that one for some reason but I got the pathway to the Premiership the year before, I don’t know if anyone else go it but it was rectangular shaped and of real good quality I still have a flick through it now and again to reminisce. It had every match and score plus more. If it was a case of profits going to burns unit I’m sure they’d sell like hot cakes.

I’m sure they’ll still do one off programme’s for big games, but I can’t imagine many sales were made for the likes of a Tuesday night game against Harrogate.

 

I hope the club will continue with the team sheets that were handed out though.
Yes you can get all the teams info on line but at that moment, when you want to know who the hell that No.16 is, whose playing for the opposition, a quick look at the sheet tells you.
No time to start buggerin' about on the internet!

Why ? Do you really think anyone would not buy a season ticket because they can't buy a programme ?

It's a sensible commercial decision. The quality of the programme and the production/ distribution costs must be huge. I seriously doubt the club make any money on it. In fact I wouldn't be at all surprised if its a loss leader.

I feel sorry for the kids, but they will get over it and it's not going to make them go support Burnley just because they have a programme.
