Match day programmes

Makes you wonder why they can't produce an E-version for a quid- I would be more likely to consider that. Haven't bought a matchday programme in a long time.

 

No big loss imo. Club can not be making any cash from it.

And there's nothing that can't be found online or through city's app for free.

 

Think a number of clubs stopped last season

 

Folks tightening their belts, digital taking over the printed word, businesses trying to be more environmentally sustainable....

Was only a matter of time.

 

Yep, something I suggested a few weeks ago, but there are so many options pre game to find the announced teams. Would it be worth it?

 

That's just a small part of the programme though? The rest is oppo background, previous encounters, managers blog, owners blog, ceo blog etc etc and other locally related articles-mascots etc.

 

Yes I understand that, as you say online , downloadable, but the effort to put it all together may not be cost effective?
I collected them as a young un, and for special games. Still got Wembley’s etc, Norwich away in cup and disaster day all bring back memories, but let’s face it , other than commemorating a key game they aren’t really necessary?

 

More than 60% of last seasons programmes were just filled with advertisements for local businesses.

Was like reading one of those local neighbourhood booklets you find down the cafe.

 

Bit of a shame, seems everything these days boils down to a price in bean counter era. Some things are worth a bit more than just hard currency. What’s £500 a fortnight loss (complete guess) when you’ve spent god knows how much paying off the likes of Derek Adams.

Sadly not in the least bit surprised but I think it smacks of penny pinching.

 

I can certainly understand the likes of Stevenage, who jumped on this as soon as the FA allowed teams to stop printing them, they probably only sold a couple of hundred a time, if that.
City however have a possible 13-14,000 possible customers if the product is any good.
The problem is the product has descended into old news and adverts, which at £3 a pop is never going to sell.
I used to like buying away ones just for the memories but the latest, at Hartlepool, was absolute rubbish.

 

If it’s a choice between an extra £250 week salary we can offer a decent player, or a cheaply made booklet which tells you a bit about the tinpot opposition which we don’t want to share a league with then give me the money every day of the week.

I used to get one but found them less and less relevant in the modern world. I can understand maybe doing them for big matches or something, but a Sutton or Crawley in league 2 no thanks.

 

Right decision if it’s losing the club money and not contributing to the club, everything in them can be found online at the click of a button.

An end of season book maybe worth exploring of good quality with all profits going to the burns unit, other than that I see little point. I still get a programme if I go to a major sporting event, but for us against Harrogate it’s not really something that interests a lot of people, hence why it makes a loss.

 

I wrote to Sparks at the beginning of last season, suggesting a digital version of the programme for overseas fans, and those who cannot attend the game. I'd have paid a couple of quid to read through it.

Didn't get a reply.

 

as a read they haven’t always bean the greatest but you get out what you put in , what about the programme sellers and a bit of extra coin for them. Small things but I think it boils down to the club can’t be arsed as it makes no money, not all supporters are smartphone users though, I know my dad always bought one. It was rubbish when Geoffrey started printing in black and white but at least the club saw sense then and did a u turn.

 

It’s a business, if it doesn’t contribute to the business and loses money then it’s not about been arsed it’s simple economics. They might come back some day if we go up the leagues or for big games, but other than a small minority of people nobody bothers with them, otherwise they wouldn’t be getting rid.

 

If just a business it would have been done and dusted a long time ago. I hope the numbers work for them. If they want to do their bit for sustainability they could try to fix the jammed taps in the kop.

 

Maybe they’ll be able to afford to now and a new hand dryer…
