I saw this exchange between a supporter and Mark Lawn in the Bradford City Facebook group.

I am not so sure exactly what “help” Mark Lawn would be willing to give.

Maybe I am clutching at straws here, but I would also like Mark Lawn to be involved in a consortium to take back over the club.

What do others think about this?

Anything is better than this. At least he cares about the club.

But he says that he doesn’t have any spare cash to invest so not sure what he would bring to a consortium?

His knowledge of how to run a football club would surely be beneficial to anybody looking to invest?

What he means is 'if I buy the club rather than come in later as an investor then they aren’t going to guarantee me a yearly return of 9% above the BoE base rate so it’s not worth while me divesting other investments'

Bit harsh. He risked a million quid of his own money, when we really needed it. I don't begrudge him that, as with some luck along the way he brought some great times to the club.

Sadly any consortium will wait till the end of the season or till we are relegated before showing any interest
A L2 club will be much cheaper to purchase
    Sad but true

How am I a clown. If he was this guy who only cared for the club as you and others claim he would divest investments without any thought. He is a businessman who does things because they make him money. He was able to get what quite frankly is daylight robbery before because the club were desperate, if he was to be part of a consortium taking over he isn’t going to be able to be guaranteed a return let alone a return higher than his property investments bring

That would depend on how they want to run it. Moving from one public announcement of a deficit, threats to leave VP, letting things get into a state of disrepair, asking fans to pay for upgrades needed by the league etc. If that is what new owners are after then yes

He didn’t really risk it though. He was guaranteed nearly £100k a year and even if the club got into really big trouble the chances of him then not getting more than he invested back was really low

Lawn was taking out more a year than the figures I’ve seen people quote the current owners though 9% above base rate is a crazy amount

We've had this debate countless time.
Bearing in mind the credit history of Bradford City AFC Ltd , this was a bloody cheap deal.
No one I repeat no one would have lent us a quid never mind A £Million

    I'd have a Lawn-led consortium back in a heartbeat.

I'm aware of the back-and-forth on his actual contribution to the club last time around, the loan, the deficit, lucking out on Parkinson, the cup runs, etc, etc, etc, but the club's performance under Rahic is absolutely embarrassing - nothing like it was under Lawn, and I cannot fathom for a minute that it ever would have got this bad under Lawn's leadership.

Was he a brilliant, brilliant chairman with few faults?

    Nah.

Was he an absolutely incompetent clown with ideas well above his station and a strategy written on the back of a soiled Becks beer mat that was never, ever going to work?

    Also no.

That middle ground sounds divine to me...

    I don't agree.

We were bumping along as a club when he took over. Without the luck of the Delph and Wisdom money in particular, I think we'd have been very close to yet another administration. It was a risk, we were only a few years out of administration and not honouring players contracts. Without the Cup run we'd probably still owe him that investment, notwithstanding the interest payments.

Yes he is a businessman but he genuinely cares about both the club and its fans.

So what assets of Bradford City (They hardly have any) did Lawn secure against, so he could have a fixed charge and therefore be a Secured creditor if anything went tits up????
