It'll be interesting to hear a full interview with MH's of his motivations and aspirations here. Also what level of financial backing he's to expect. I can't imagine for a moment believe he'll be working to the same blue-print as DA's had.
All appointments are a gamble and this could possibly peter out the same way Robson's did
I don't think MH's appointment particularly smacks of short-termism, potentially this appointment should suit both MH's and the club. A modicum of success will keep him here for hopefully several seasons, but bigger and more grandiose clubs would take note of MH's resurgence in management and come knocking for him.
Hopefully by which time we could be where we were just before Rahic came meddling

From RS's point of view, an astute appointment, if we can tail the season off with a reasonable run of form, then the lift given by this appointment should shift season tickets this summer.

    Now the shock has subsided.

Mark has achieved f$$k all. I don't think this will end well.

Wait until he finds out he can only sign players from league 2 on £300 a week because a sustainable budget. ;):joy::joy:

Let's hope as an ex International/Premiership player he can bring far more to the squad than just picking a starting 11 and a ridgid formation, been there seen it done it ?.

The spectre of Peter Taylor terrifies me. He's the closest in profile. We'll know very soon whether this is a stunt to appease and attract season ticket sales or a genuine change in ambition and recruitment. Time will tell.

    No doubt.

Grayson had something to say about it. So did Bowyer. And Adams.

Let's see how Hughes fares. Hopefully, for once, we back words with action and money.

I know I've been negative in recent months towards Sparks and Rupp, but I can't deny that signing Mark Hughes is a
    step in the right direction.

They need to get behind him with proper funding from the top moving into next season. It's last chance saloon for Rupp.

It won't have been cheap to bring in someone of Hughes calibre.

This appointment will make or break the club. It's a huge risk, but one we need to take. If Rupp and Sparks are treating it as a quick solution, it could fail. Sparks and Rupp must have a long term vision in place with Mark Hughes.

Sure his recent record hasn't been great, but he's still a top flight manager coming into a League 2 team. This sort of appointment doesn't happen everyday.

I'm very happy and optimistic with this appointment of Mark Hughes and I'll be keenly watching to see what Rupp and Sparks do to actually support him.

I'm not expecting miracles this season given the state of our squad. It's a tough challenge for Hughes to step in at this stage of the season.

Roll on Mansfield, be great if we go into that game and kick their arses!

    COME ON CITY!!!!!!!!

I can't see this appointment being made under the same conditions as Adams or Bowyer had the player budget is what we bring in from season tickets.
Wether the guy can do the job or not I can't see him taking that chance of looking a fool because he's not backed with more than season ticket money.
I HOPE Ryan has told Rupp to get this deal over the line Hughes has got to have guarantees with regards finance available to get this club up and running.
If Hughes has to work under the same situation as the above IMO he wouldn't have touched the job, he's not short of brass does he need this sort of challenge at 58 years of age?.

All im gonna say is give Hughes Time. Lets be honest, Promotion is gone at this point. So we need to consolidate with what we have. An by summer; most of the dross will be off our books. Hughes can bring his own players in. His own team, from scratch. And hes got the contacts to actually make that happen

unlike Adams who assumed Threlkeld was still a Right Back, Delfonseo was still a winger and Kelleher, who was still a footballer

Almost a blank canvas for him at the end of the season. So hopefully his reputation and profile will get enough reaction from these players to pick up enough point to ensure our safety.

For all those that are still sceptical and think this is just about ST’s next year. Okay maybe. But why?
If he does n’t get backing then we’ll be where we are now this time next year. The difference is they will have played their hand. It’s a massive statement of intent from where we currently are. It might not work but we needed ambition and now we have shown some. A long way to go yet. They have to follow this through. If they don’t then that’s the time to look for a Saturday hobby. Right now it’s the time to get right behind the club and show the owner what can be achieved. They are on notice.

Maybe he's done it for the love of the game, for the thrill of managing. Maybe he just wants back in? Maybe he's been given false promises, or has ill founded expectations of our being 'a big club'?

The statement from Sparks is a bold and comprehensive one in terms of the backing thats apparently going to be provided. Thats either an empty promise, the like of which we've seen before, or Rupp has decided to invest in a manner that we've not previously seen.

I know where my money would go. But I genuinely hope I'm wrong. If this is that start of a proper rebuild, of genuine ambition being shown and funding behind it, then fantastic, because its what we need. I'll remain sceptical until proven otherwise, given the evidence of our recent history and Rupps tenure to date.
