It is worrying that a mod considers a word that is not a swear word and probably in common use by 10 year olds in conversation is not to be used here, However rods and backs etc, I expect it to be ruthlessly deleted when used by others unless of course the mod was been personal against me,

Interesting the MOD concerned was not brave enough to put his name to the message deleting it, However I accept the judgement if a little bemused by it

I removed your reference to his comment and with it the petty insults as I told you at the time. The OP made his position on the issue quite clear without getting personal. On the other hand, you decided to use the personal insults to make your own point which was unecessary.

Personal insults will continue to be removed inline with the site etiquette rules.

The thing is though if the boot was on the other foot labour would have done the same thing. The biggest flaw in politics, especially democratic politics is everything is looked at short term whereas most things take time to have an impact. It's like how in US Politics, most of Trumps policies he has introduced have not yet had any impact, most positives that people can put at Trumps feet are actually from Obama's time, mostly the first term. Trump may see some of his policies bear fruit if he gets a second term but most likely his policies from this term won't have a real impact until the president after him. It's why you often see the party swap every 8 years as those who voted for the candidate of other party lose faith in them as the policies they voted for haven't seemed to have an impact.

With something like SureStart it may have been a good policy but Blair/Brown spent a lot of money on a lot of things like that but we there was very little tangible benefit being shown. It's possible it needed another 10 or 20 years for the benefits to be really seen but politians have to react to what voters at that minute are concerned about and with the financial state Labour had got the country into at that point made worse by the financial crisis any party would have been under pressure to scrap things that weren't showing great results and were costing a fair bit no matter how much they may benefit if you look long term.

In many ways Politics is like how Football's become in that everything is about short term results when sometimes you have to have faith in a long term project (Fergie would have been sacked these days long before his job came under threat, despite the fact we now know his long term plan was a great one)

Saw the photos of some of the food being given out and while it's probably reflective of a minority of cases and was initially overblown in terms of costs (the lady said it should have been reflective of £30 whereas it was actually only supposed to be worth £10.50) it was definitely sub standard and shoddy.

Is it being left up to individual schools to sort out the meals for their pupils or does it fall only the councils or direct from the government?

That's what happens when you dish out to a private company. They should have stated the maximum profit margin or minimum value of food

It is different school by school as it is the company that already have the meal contracts otherwise they would be paying two companies for same thing as the contracts are still in place for in the schools.

Possibly, probably also shows the issue of going down the route of this going through government agencies. The more organic 'community' way of organising these meals that occurred during the last half term seemed to work better.

Although saying that it does seem to be a minority of the packages that were substandard so I probably shouldn't be too harsh.

Brilliant comment on TalkRadio yesterday. After the news we will be talking about the leader of the opposition, Marcus Rashford. Made me laugh

It's being handled on behalf of the Govt by a subsidiary of Compass, one of the largest companies in the world providing food services, hospitality etc to both the public sector - schools, hospitals etc - and the private sector - in-house catering, sports grounds, outdoor events etc. That have enormous expertise in these areas and there's no reason why they should provide a second or third rate service to those who do need the food boxes.

Gavin Willamson has just announced that the Govt is now scrapping the food box system becuase of the poor quality of the service. They're returning to providing the families who need them with food vouchers to be used in the supermarkets.

Bearing in mind as with Talksport the idea is to be controversial or lean in a certain direction to encourage people to phone in
