Once nearly got done over on my way there, virtually right outside - was on my own as my mates had gone ahead, think I'd been talking to a lady....two lads had me up against a car about to smash me in the face but I wriggled out of my jacket like Houdini. Bouncers did nothing so went inside and came back out with about 6 of my mates and these lads soon did one!!

 

I vote it gets changed to this, with a clever bit of perspective adjustment so he's pointing on the opposition manager's head lol

They are two different people, "Nails" played cricket for Thackley, I can't imagine Tiny ever wearing whites.

 

Been there a while from the looks of it. They have 5 strikers on the books, 4 experienced and a young lad but Oates has torn his pec and will be out for 3 or 4 months they are saying. Looks like they are having a few injury issues, they couldn't fill the bench last week against Doncaster.

Looking at their 3 options to play up top, they have a few units. Akins (6'1), Bowery (6'1) & Hawkins (6'6). Might be a more physical challenge for Platt and Critchlow than they've had in recent games. Only physical forward i can remember seeing against them this season was the lad at Hartlepool.

 

Their number 32 seems to be quite influential in their play. One to keep an eye on.

 

Good player is Lapslie, they paid a decent fee for this level for him too from Charlton. His usual partner this season in CM has a hamstring injury, so new partnership for Saturday could be a good thing for us. They've had a bug going around the team, their right back Hewitt had to be taken out in the warm up on saturday after being violently ill on the pitch and in the changing rooms. Two of their strikers Bowery and Hawkins had it and missed a few days before that game too.

 

Hawkins gave our two CD a real hard time last season at their place let's hope Platt & Crithlow are prepared for an aerial battle.
I wonder if Hughes would consider Songo sitting in front of our two CD to give that extra bit of height.

 

Smallwood and Songo’o pairing with plenty of pace in the “ 3 “, maybe Wright, Chapman , Banks.

Wright over Young just for his pace! Or swap for the last 20 mins? I agree with you here Dave, no room for a Sutton / East / Gilly partnership with Smallwood.

 

I'd go for the hard two of Songo'o and Smallwood too to be honest, especially as Gilly is just come back from injury.... again. I think save Wright for a 20 minute cameo at tired legs, Hughes really is splitting his team into starters and finishers and someone with his direct play looks destined for that "finishers" role. Like Banks who seems to be incredible in first halves then disappears and gets subbed off around the hour mark in seconds, seems like his best role.

 

Hawkins scored both Mansfield's goals that day and won far more headers than he should have done against our two big CD Paudie and Canavan, the first being poor marking by Canavan giving him a free header, O'Donnell pulled a great reaction save off from Hewitt to keep us level then Vernam had another great strike which the keeper couldn't hold and Cook got the winner in front of the traveling City fans then gestured to the Mansfield fans "not bad for a fatty" who had been giving him relentless stick.


Looking at Mansfield line ups when Hawkins has played he played CD rather than up front.

 

A repeat of that would do nicely

 

It was a great advertisement for League Two football but poor old Nigel wasn't happy not a patch on his old man.
