    In fairness, this wasn't exactly a weak Liverpool team. Some real quality in this squad, many internationals, a superb centre half, a champions League final goalscorer....some of the best young talent around.

    Adrian, N Williams, R Williams, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Grujic, Jones, Elliott, Shaqiri, Minamino, Origi.

    Subs: Fabinho, Keita, Jota.

    Lincoln are a fairly decent side but if we have any ambitions for promotion we should be looking for a close match really. When we got promoted from league 2 before we adjusted immediately to life in league one. I don’t think there is much difference in quality and maybe less so now with the salary cap. The difference might show I the top 4 Or so teams but even then.
    We should be having a real go tonight. Some talk on here like it’s Brazil 1970 we are playing

    I think McCall has to be here for at least a couple of years. Not just because we need some continue, but given that we clearly have no ambition to take the club forward, having someone who 'gets' the club, is a capable coach and is likely very good with our younger players, we'd be daft to make a change in the near to medium future.

    I think Appleton is a good manager and knows how to assemble a squad who can play good football. He did a great job down at Oxford although far from successful at Blackpool amidst all their troubles!

    Think he realised he had struggled a bit as a manager so went and worked at Leicester and then West Brom I think as first team coach. Clearly took some ideas on board and is doing quite well again now
