Steady player im pleased hes stayed on, He lacked support on that left side, didn't have someone like Banks in front of him. Maybe Oduor is for a more attacking position in front of Ridehalgh ?

Never rated wood really. Didn’t get the hype.

This looks a solid signing and Adams seems clear our defence wasn’t good enough before. Particularly at full back.

No surprise. Reliable and dependable squad player if he can keep fit.

are delighted to announce the signing of left-back Liam Ridehalgh, on a two-year deal.

The experienced defender arrives at the Utilita Energy Stadium after eight seasons at Tranmere Rovers, where he enjoyed two promotion campaigns.

Halifax-born Ridehalgh graduated from the Huddersfield Town academy in 2010 - having joined the club in 2003.

He has also served loan spells at Rotherham United, Swindon Town and Chesterfield.

Ridehalgh said: “I am really glad to have got the deal done. I cannot wait to get going and am really looking forward to the season ahead.

“Bradford City is a massive football club. I am local to the area and know exactly what both the supporters and manager require.

“I played against a Derek Adams team in the play-offs last season. His sides are hard working and strong mentally, so I know what is expected.

“We are in League Two at the moment, but I know our aim is to go further than this division.

“It is clearly an ambitious football club. The new manager has come in and has past experience of getting promoted from this league. There are a few players in the camp who have been there and done it as well.

“I think this is a Championship club, so hopefully this year we can be right up there in the league.”

Bantams boss Derek Adams said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Liam on board as our fifth new recruit of the summer.

“When I first arrived at the club, he was one of the very first names on our list, so to have got the deal completed ahead of pre-season is hugely encouraging.

“He is a well-cultured player with plenty of quality and experience at left-back, having played close to 400 games in his career.

“Liam is from around the area and lives locally, so is well aware of what this football club means and what is required to represent it.

“We welcome him to Bradford City, and are looking forward to seeing him in action when we begin pre-season training next week.”

Not sure why everyone is excited about this? Hopefully he'll be solid enough but let's not forget that he was Tranmeres back up left back and they were happy to move him on.

He may well come in and be superb, I've no idea as I've not really seen him play but I'm worried that we're picking him up as first choice (presumably) just as he's lost his spot at a rival.

I like the fact he's a proper left back, not a wing back or utility or right wing or can play in the hole or some other guff. We know exactly what his role is.

Really? He's a steady, reliable fullback in a back four and also has a good cross on him. It's certainly not his fault that he had no one decent in front of him to link with after Wright left.
If we decide to go back three with wingbacks then we now have Oduor to fill that role.
I'd be much more concerned if we don't get more pace and creativity in midfield, a decent replacement for Banks and another striker to share the load with Cook. Left back is the least of our worries.

The spelling issue is going to be worse than Morecambe. Along with Threlkeld. I can tell it is going to drive me nuts.

Most things that have either happened so far under Adams' first transfer window and his general approach to those he's signed elsewhere indicate we're going back to the 'men not boys' approach of Parkinson.

I can't tell you how refreshing that is after the Edin Rahic development squad crap.

For Woods sake it was best he went back down south, in an interview he alluded to being lonely through Covid so far away from Friends and Family. This probably resulted in his downtrend in form last season as footballers are only human. Imo he was always going to move back south, best for both parties.

I've no problem with that. Pretty reliable and can put over a very good cross when given the opportunity.

Our backline conceded the least number of goals from open play, which lays bare any theory that they are too slow. Set pieces cost us, which is down to static defending not pace. We need to work on set pieces and get the two centre halves more dominant at these. The fact we cut out most of these silly mistakes when we had a combo of Platt & Stubbs indicates that the issue at set pieces is mainly down to the Huddersfield loanee and Odusina.

I've no problem with Ridehalgh, nor him being first choice as long as he has the support in front of him.

Sorry, I think there are plenty on here and elsewhere would disagree.
CM, I'll grant you. But the lack of a decent left sided attacker after Wright left was a far far bigger issue than left back, and I'm convinced that very few City fans would disagree with that. The handful of games when Clayton played there and did well only serve to underline how awful it was with one of Costelloe, Eisa, Nevers or Osedebe playing there. Not having a settled left winger or a good enough deputy for Wright/Clayton cost us automatic promotion. We hit the buffers big time when we had to revert to the diamond, with Smallwood playing out of position on the left, because of no effective left wing option.

Totally agree, Rides has proved to be steady and clearly Hughes rates him. Yes he has been caught out a couple of times but so have many of our players this season. Lewis doesn't have a bad word said against him by our fans, but he has been prone to a few clangers. Happens to the best of them

As many have said happy with this, yes he's no Roberto Carlos or anything like but he's a steady head and no doubt offers the club great value for money to cover Lb without breaking the bank. He seemed to take a fair bit of unnecessary stick on here last season for some reason, but I think not having a proper left sided player in front of him left him too exposed. If we play a back 4 in certain games or switch to a 4 mid game and we're in an old school position of wanting our fullbacks to just defend then he's perfectly sound.

Full backs are full backs because they can't beat a man. If they could they'd be a winger. At school you'd play full back if you were crap and couldn't play anywhere else. Hence why I was a right footed left back lol.
