    Evening gents,

At the risk of sounding a bit dim, when’s the best time to look at booking a return on the train for this? Would it be advisable to split the journey to cut costs a little bit? Just looked on Trainline and a return from Leeds to Orient is £74.90 (with a 26-30 railcard!). Any help would be much appreciated, do love a London away day but the trains/tube baffle me every time. Thanks fellas.

Advance tickets aren't available for the 14th December yet, best option is to fill in this form and you'll get an email when they do go on sale https://www.lner.co.uk/travel-information/travelling-later/early-bird-ticket-alerts/
Should be able to get Leeds to Kings Cross for around £20 each way if you get tickets at the right time.

Should be an interesting day to go down to London just after the election. Me and the missus are going down a day earlier, got a return on megabus and national express for about £15 each. Then an air bnb in South London zone 1 for about £80 for 2 nights. Good job is the missus loves going to football, so don't need to shop like mad to make up for it.

I think my senior Rail Card could come in handy really enjoyed my last trip to Orient. Tickets are expensive at the moment though. We normally get the train from Keighley at 7:00 am approx. Return journey though there is engineering works and it looks like two changes and longer journey time back.

Takes a bit more time but done it myself a few times, go via Manchester.

Around £53 without railcard if travelling by yourself or £51 if two of you. With a railcard, relevant prices £35/£33.

Whether you can be bothered with the extra travel time and a walk across Manchester is down to you.

Might drive to Northampton then train from there.
    Only 30 quid in fuel.
Then you can get an off peak family travel card what covers train return to euston, but also includes unlimited tube, bus and DLR travel when you're down there. All for £36.
that's based on 1 adult and 1 child.

I like these London away trips, but early booking is fraught with danger.
Weather at this time of year is always a worry, and weekend travel by rail is turning into a complete lottery.

In all the years I have been following City home and away, using the train, I have never failed to get to a match and I can only recall one match where delayed trains caused me to miss the kick off.

Ironically, the only match I have set off for and failed to get to was a Boxing Day fixture, when I had to travel by car and ended up stuck on the M6 for over 5 hours.

Yes, there is always a risk buying cheap advance tickets (as the Colchester postponement has shown) and the weather can affect travel, but bad weather can affect all kinds of transport.

Me too. It's my best mates birthday who lives in the smoke so if the game is called off for whatever reason it won't be a wasted trip as I'll be heading out after the game anyway. 08:45 from Leeds then I think it's the 19:30ish back to Leeds on the Sunday £41.00. Can squeeze a few more beers in on the Sunday sesh before heading home. My mate is struggling to find any decent Air B'n'B's. Either massively overpriced or 2 night stays. you found accommodation yet?
