Why do people look at defensive records and instantly blame particular players. You could play the best full back in the World at left-back, but if the centre-backs and right-back are inconsistent, it doesn’t mean the left-back is to blame. It means the defensive unit is poor.

How do you know that Leigh wasn’t a shining light in a poor defence?

 

But as I have mentioned on a separate thread, you can’t just look at the number of goals conceded and blame singular players or pairings.

Very true. He’d looked a decent player until that first half. He had no support that day. Even his manager then hung him out to dry. Replaced him early on and never gave him a proper look in again. No wonder he didn’t want to stick around

Personally, I’d start him alongside McGowan, but agree we need to look at getting a better backup than NKP.

I'm friends with a Bury fans and he say he hasn't really improved too much since joining them, still decent going forward but defensively there are question marks and gets beaten in one on ones too easily or just lets crosses in. Looks like he would suit a WB role or have a more defensive minded wide man infront of him to offer protection.

 

Don't worry, the goals conceded star is just a fact to underline my impression that their performances were poor.
